Pit Bull bans...WTF?

Oh but wait Pit Bulls are just an animal, so we can kill them, its okay.

They are just as important to me and my family then the rest of my family is. They are people for lack of a better term, My female that is my "Pet" is like a daughter to me.
Sigh the problem with pit bulls are not the dogs themselves but the Owners. YEesh.. Last week, at my apartment complex some kids own a pitbull. A cute adorable thing that came running up to me. The breed has some affection for me and I don't why. But i love them back as well. Well these kids started to smack the puppy, i mean smack him hard. I was furious. I asked the kid WTF was he doing. And his reply was "that is how you treat pit bulls, you need to make them mean." I told him would he like it if I smacked him around?? HE got in my face and started to taunt me.
Seriously, this kid was 14 and i wanted to beat him. I was just livid. I went into the office today for my complex and complained. I told them I do not tolerate animals being beaten and next time I will call the police. They do not like the police coming to the complex. Plus I told them if this dog does grow up to be mean and attacks some one they would be would also be responsible since they allowed the animal on their property cause no dogs are allowed on our lease.

grrr. i am still fuming over writing this.

Well, if they leave him running lose, maybe you can "find" him and take him home with you :joke:

No child under ten should be left alone with ANY dog. Period. Children might as well be a foreign species when it comes to dogs perceiving their intentions..Children are generally at eye level ( a no-no) Children move quickly and without provocation (particularily bad around nervous dogs) Children will pick up toys, get into the food bowl etc...This could provoke an attack...Most dog bites come from females, most often with litters. Most bites are also inflicted by a family pet, not a strange dog...My father was a breeder and Kennel master for 35 years and i was taught at a very young age about dogs and how to behave around them...UNFORTUATELY viscious dogs have become somewhat "chic",

These are key points...kids should not be left alone with dogs....We have a yellow lab, 7 years old, extremely mellow, has never showed a hint of aggression..yet I still keep an eye out when he is playing with the kids....and if I had a dime for every idiot that gets a pitbulls because they are "chic"....responsible pitbull owners don't try to make them more aggressive, they supervise their animals with others, and they sure as hell kennel them (as I do my lab) to insure they don't get out and roam the neighborhood. Here in the the San Francisco bay area, about 75-80 % of the dogs you see in the pound are pit bulls or pitbull mixes...many are obviously abused or have been in fights...I think "banning" these dogs may have the opposite affect - make them more popular as an "underground" dog -much stiffer fines and real prison time for owners of offending dogs may be more affective....this issue does go round and round...the bottom line is responsibility for the care of a living creature....and holding people fully responsible and accountable for the actions of their pets.

I agree with you fishboy...They very well may go underground...Where they can stay lol...Our current bylaw does not outright ban Pitbulls...Existing dogs can stay as long as they are muzzled and sterilized...Nobody is rounding them up an euthanising them...I think the thugs that purposely breed and encourage viscious dogs should be euthanised lol

Instead of banning one breed of dogs lets try banning some dog owners. The way I see it we need to ban idiots with $200 cars with $2000 rims, wallet chains, bad fitting pants, and a knee high on their head because its these morons who buy pitbulls and train them to be aggressive.

Granted, a pit's body time is more suited to the job once he's trained but if I beat the sh*t out of a golden retriever and starve him until he's mean you'd be talking about banning him.

It has been my experience, and this is purely anecdotal, that at least half of dog owners in the US mistreat their dogs. Some love them to death by feeding them too much and not giving them exercise, and some go the other way by ignoring them and leaving them out in a yard all day and night with little water or food. That doesn't make those dogs bad breeds, it makes the owners bad owners.

Go ahead, ban pitbulls. Morons will move onto something else. Maybe dobies or german sheperds. Maybe chows, they can be mean as h*ll. All it'll take is a couple chuckle heads to started irresponsibly breeding puppy mill stock so they can sell them for cheap outside of a check cashing shop and the next thing you know they'll be all over mauling some little kid.

Its not about the dogs.

Better yet-neutered!!!
edit: please note-I am speaking of the irresponsible breeders, not ones like Labont!

The only good pitbull is one with its jaws firmly clamped around the neck of a member of PETA or a politician...
