Pit Bull rant

Pit Bulls can easily kill you and Cockers... well can't! Labont (Sp?) even admits his pit can't be out with other dogs and little kids in a park.
All three of us kids were attacked by pits as kids and sent to the emergecy room. I still have a chunck out of my butt  My husband's stupid Schnauzer bit me and I just had a bad cut. Big diff!

Must4ng,
Its insane!! I'm glad that your dog is ok! I sure don't like it when people carelessly let their dogs go off leash. Its not dogs' fault, its the owners who didn't spend enough time with dogs to train them so they can behave and obey!
Again... WHEW! I'm glad your dog is ok!

There are plenty of dogs that are aggressive to other dogs and even the most docile of dogs can attack. The was a story locally a few weeks ago about a new born that was mauled by the family golden retreiver.

Pitbulls get a horrible rap because they seem to be a very popular dog for idiots with inferiority complexes. These owners mistreat their dogs and train them to be aggressive which you could do to almost any dog.

It just so happens that a pit bulls physical traits make it exceedingly dangerous when trained to be aggressive. Banning the dogs themselves is unfair.

Pitbulls can be naturally aggressive to other dogs by the way and really shouldn't ever be unsupervised. BUT, no dog should be unseupervised. They are animals and therefore unpredictable.

BTW, did you file a complaint against the owners of the pit bull? Might be hard to now but complaints are the only real way to get the owners cited and possibly lose the dog.

let's face it, pitties (and quite a number of other breeds) are more dangerous, based soley on their larger size and greater strength. This doesn't mean they are bad breeds. It means more care must be taken with them. This doesn't excuse bad behavior/training (or lack of it) from even the smallest ****zu(sp?). The main problem is with the owners of the dogs, or if they are feral. Laws should be ennacted/enforced against these bad owners, but this is a difficult thing because you don't always know there's a problem until after a bad incident. In the mean time, and unfortunatly, laws need to be geared toward the dogs themselves. This should possibly/probably apply to all breeds, for fairness sake. And even though not life threatening to an adult, a ****zu bite would still hurt and be annoying. I feel the Ontario law, if agreed upon by the majority is not a bad, if not a good, compromise. Certainly better than a law allowing officials to confiscate and kill all dogs of a breed based soley on their breed. Let's face it, dog owners (myself included, with three large breeds) possibly won't like these laws, but they are needed to balance the rights of dog owners with the right of public saftey. If you think about it our legal systems laws are based upon the rights of the public to be safe from others misdeeds. Sometimes these laws limit the actions of responsible people. Compromise.

macho idiots, but well said

i knwo other rbeds can be bad as well.... but have you EVER met a deadly Newfoundland? OR how about a deadly Great Parameies Mountain? Both of these breeds are 170 Pounds + And they are the most gentile, careing, and toughtful creatures.

actually I met a mean, aggressive st. bernard once. boy was that scary. I'm glad your dog is okay however I won't put in my two cents on the pitbull thing because I did that on the other thread. oh and zave, I'm not sure about people but great pyrenees dogs do sometimes attack other dogs. Where I live those dogs are bred to protect sheep and goats from coyotes.

Well, all I can say is.......I have heard enough stories of kids having thier arms chewed off..(one little boy put his hand through a fence and a pit grab his arm and just plain pulled it off !!)......or being killed by large dogs like pits and rotties....I don't care if it's the owners to blame or not.....a breed of dog with such a bad reputation needs to be regulated in some way.....it isn't worth the loss or bodily injury of any one person to "save" a dog from a bad rap.....the least that can be done with them is to have a law they they need to be leashed and muzzled at all times when out in public. Those folks who owned that pit should have been arrested for such irresponsible behavior.

As far as dogs like cockers or any one of the smaller breeds that can be nippy goes...big difference IMHO.........they generally aren't capable of ripping your face off or tearing your throat out.

Now I had a neighbor who had a pit in her yard...chained...they were watching it for a friend. A couple of kids were walking down the road with thier dog...which wasn't leashed. This dog, husky mix, went up to say Hi to the pit....because the pit was standing there wagging his tail all friendly like....well the pit pounced on him as soon as he was in range and had him by the throat and was about to kill that dog when the husband came home and was able to get him off.

Now...yes...those kids should have had that dog on a leash.......but.....I kept thinking....what if my kid had been over in that yard and went up to say hello to that dog ???? at the time he was only 6 years old. I didn't even know that dog was over there !!! Well, he would have been dead before anyone had a chance to get to him !!! Will someone then get on a stump to say..."Well, you shouldn't let your kid go over there" or "it's not the dogs fault..it's the owners" ??? That's just stupid !

i dont like pitbulls becouse when i was five one lunged at me and attact me i had 28 sticks in my arm and 17 on my cheek
