Yes. The substrate is Flourite Black sand.

well you have a life threatening case of ammonia. sometimes you can buy cheap ammonia helpers, but these will only slow down the effect of it. What you really need to do is do a 60% water change. And a 50% tomorrow. that will slow the effects if it ammonia. But please go to the chat room and ask for ammonia help.

3 other are not in sight right now. The tank has been running for a month or so now, and should be fully cycled. I had just done an 80% WC, so it shouldn't have been ammo. My first thought was that I may not have added the water conditioner, although I was sure I had, so I dumped more in. Obviously it didn't help.

You did the 80% water change after the first one died right? Is so, it may have been too late for the second Khuli. Test the water and post the results. It's much better to have it turned out it be high ammonia than it being a mystery disease.

Testing water now.
I have had the kuhlis for 2 weeks today.

Tests done. ALL 0. No ammo, no nitrates or nitrites.

Someone on chat suggested it might be something in the water, that they might be working on a line somewhere. I haven't seen anything, but it's a possibility.

When you found the dead loach this morning did you check the parameters at that time? If so, what were they? When you came home and did the big water change, do you know what the parameters where before the change?

No, I had to head out at the time, and saw the loach right as I was about to leave. I did remove him right away.
No, I figured it would be better to just do the WC rather than take the time to test all the params. I probably should have, but I wanted to get new water in ASAP.
I use a Python.

i've read before that khulis are notoriously unhealthy, dont remember why. but i guess that when lfs buy them the buy a quantity because there is a lot of die off. my experience is that about 2 out of 3 that i buy die in the first couple months. i'll see if i can dig up the articles that i read that on

Could the pH have anything to do with it? My pH is around 7.5-7.6. I know kuhlis prefer more acidic water, but I wouldn't think my higher pH would KILL them.
