Post why you like having an aquarium

for me, i keep them because i like the responsibility, and the relaxation of it all, on a very stressful day i can go into my room and sit in from of my tanks and it calms me down
We like to keep fish tanks because they are beautiful and extremely relaxing after a hard day.....I have a home office and at times I have collection issues with some customers....they yell, scream, shout, and refuse to pay. My tank takes me away from all of that. (when I'm not messin it up). I learned ALLOT about fish from this site and I'm glad it is here.
I originally set-up my aquarium for my 2 year old daughter, but as I'm sure many of you can attest to I enjoy it just as much as she does if not more. It is alot of fun learning about all the different types of fish with my daughter and the fact that she wakes up sing and talking to them makes it worth any extra work involved, even if my wife doesn't quite understand it! :thm:
So the wife (or sig other) has something else to complain about :laugh:
Control or the illusion of control at least, relaxation, stimulate creativity, beautify the room, make friends jealous!!!!
A source of water for house plants, a place to grow stuff to trade in at the lfs for more stuff to grow, to grow stuff to trade with friends or make new friends
, so I have an excuese NOT to go the bar, and most importantly...entertainment for the kids!!!!!

we can't have pets in our apartment...fish are not included in the "pets" that we're not allowed to have. My brother killed a betta when he fed it parmasagn cheese...he was a little boy. But, I wanted to see if I (we) could keep a betta fish alive! We have, for three months, as long as we've had him. It's a male. and we named him Oedipus Rex! Then, we added other fish and the betta gets along with them fine! (We have two tiger barbs, one orange barb and a yellow barb and two algea eaters! We've got a chinese algae eater too..but he doesn't do much!) Then, we decided we wanted another tank of these delightful creatures! We've got two bala sharks, a rainbow shark, two regualar algae eaters, two fish we haven't discovered what they are yet, and another blue betta fish!( We named him LeBou, like in Hogan's hero's? Oedipus is Red!) We like the fish because they are really relaxing to watch...and we like naming them....thinking up the names! They've got their own personalities too! Our fish are like children to us now...the attachment is unreal, but we love them!
