Qs-tip #9 Starting a siphon without sucking.

Starting a siphon without sucking on the end of the hose is really easy if you know this little trick.

Put the drain end of the hose in a sink, tub or out the window but lower than the tank. Now put the gravel vac end of the hose in the tank and turn it up so it fills with water.


Now lift the gravel vac up with the end pointing upwards. The water will start to empty out of the vac and flow down the hose.


Now bring it back down while still holding it up so water fills back into the vac faster than it drains out.


Now tip the vac down and start vacuuming.


If your gravel vac has a valve you can turn the valve off. fill the vac and hose with water so no air is in it from the valve up to the vac end by dipping into the tank with the vac and holding it up high so the air comes up and out of the hose. Then fill it back up and invert in the tank. then open the valve and watch the water flow.
