Hey guys, im going to be getting a school of about 4 Rainbow Fish. So, my first question is, if I get a couple different kinds of Rainbow Fish, will they still school together?? Also, what are some cool Rainbow Fish I should look into buying?
A group of all the same species will school more tightly and they'll feel more comfortable too...what size tank is this? what's the current stocking? They tend to do best in a group of 6+ also...
I think they look neatest in a school of all the same type. But I will admit that my tank currently has several different types. They are hard to find around here, so I just bought what was available, with the plan to choose one variety and build up the school. Well, the plan didn't really pan out. I have a mixed school of old rainbows! They seem to do fine that way. They do not school though. Mine are in a 125 gal tank.
I would get at least 6. I would get dwarf neon rainbowfish, they are awesome active fish, but they won't school in a group of 4, I had them as 4, but now i have 10, and they school.
I had a successful school of 4 Boesmanis in my 30g and I LOVED them dearly. I unfortunately lost them recently due to a complication in my tank, but they were a solid 3" if not a bit more at around 1 year old. They were wonderful, one of my favorites. But they are VERY active, so you have to be prepared for that. If it's for a smaller tank celebes rainbows are beautiful
My tank is 75 gallons. And the only fish that really go near the top are my 2 Gourami. On occasion my GBR's will. But I have a baby Red Tail Black Shark. So I think that kind of rules out the Dwarfs dosent it? Because I honestly just planned on getting 4 of the big Rainbows.
