Really, really bad news... :(

Sorry about your fish. :o

As for the flooring...can you just keep it concrete? Paint the floor and then varnish it? Put down a couple of area rugs for warmth? It's cheaper than, God forbid, another tank failure.

i'm so sorry to hear about you loss, emily :( my 60g tank also cracked 2 weeks ago. i wasnt home, but when i got here the whole living room was under water! it was my turtle's tank, so she's fine but she's been in a rubbermaid container since the accident happened :(

we still dont know if we're going to buy a new one or just try to repair it :(

i dont know if you could order from glasscages.com (since you're in canada) but they usually have good prices

*offers a hug*

good luck!

chris

i should have also told you that the drilling and overflows are being custom made for us included in that price. Also some piping I believe.
That price is also with all taxes included, which are outrageous as we all know.
OK, that price makes more sense with custom overflows, plumbing and taxes.

Oh Ems - we all know you worked so hard and were so excited, it looked great -
Wow, everyones worst nightmare. You just don't think it will happen - I'm going to be extra careful w/ heavy things around my tank from now on!

It can only get better from here....and think at least your fish are safe and you have such good knowledge to build a new tank....it'll be great, even after this distaster!

This was a piece of PVC pipe he dropped and it cracked tempered glass? I seen that photo, are you sure there wasn't a fracture there already from the tank being drilled?
It just don't seem like the force was there to create the fracture and that the crack is right there where the drill holes are.

I'm positive there was no fracture.
It fell about a foot and a half to hit the very edge of the drilled hole.

Also keep in mind that the rest of the tank was full of water.

I'm curious, the other folks who wrote in saying they had tanks crack on them as well...what caused those cracks? I guess I'm wondering, will glass tanks just spontaneously crack on their own or were these other crack instances due to impacts as well? I'd hate to come home one day to find dead fish in my empty tank and 55 gallons in the basement!

Thanks!

It won't spontaneously crack, there needs to be a stress point, some place where the forces acting on the glass converge. This can start from a chip or from dropping the tank while carrying it, or could be pre-existing.
