Responsibility as a Hobbyist

nice info but it was humungo mouth full.....

I thought zebras/Asolene spixis, Canas and the Columbian Rams were allowed to be transported within state lines?
It does make you think though. The petstores should really step up and educate buyers when they purchase certain snails (our petstore sells briggs and I've seen shells for the "Columbian ramshorns". Breeders should also either refuse to sell to petstores or have something in place that the petstore must have some type of warnings posted.

On sellers, I've seen several on AB who were selling restricted species without any mention of in-state sales only.

Yes, in-state is fine, no trasport across state lines. That being said, the USDA can and will confiscate them if htey find them in your house.

Great info. Thanks Rach.......I guess "buyer beware" really rings true.

That's messed up. So they're legal to transport in-state, but if the USDA knows that you have them, they'll confiscate them? *Sigh*

The briggs, you have to have a permit to ship, no matter if it's in state or over state lines, right? What about when trading in for store credit or something, I wonder if you need to have a permit for that then too... I know you need to report any retail shipments that you make of briggs (if you ship them to someone who will be reselling them), but other than that, I don't know.

you don't need a permit for in-state transfer of bridgesii.

Forgot to mention as well, its ONLY legal to sell the actual snails. Selling eggs is ALWAYS illegal.

ok so its legal to ship canas within state lines but its not legal to own them? why will they take them from you even if you got them legally?
