Riparium in Mr. Aqua 11.4

I picked up my channoides from a dude in Indonesia on Aquabid. Came in a parcel of a bunch of other fish, so the cost of shipping wasn't too bad from the transhipper. Even with all of the import fees/whatnot, it's somehow still cheaper to buy from over seas than to get domestically bred stock. I'd sell you some fry, but never pull the brooding males, and don't know how many straggler juvies are surviving in the community tank.

Thanks so much you guys! Here is another view of the foliage closer. I will be changing this around some more to get a good layout.

Yeah isn't it funny that an imported fish would still be cheaper than something bred here? You would think with all of the hobbyists out there somebody would find ways to produce stuff like that at a profit(?????). Can you suggest any other regular species betas that I might find more easily?

Lol. Seriously. I should really pull my dominant male. He's puffing a mouthful of eggs as we speak. Maybe next time... I always feel so bad trying to catch them when they're brooding.

Ask Msj where she got her betta simplex. I think she picked those up from a breeder friend. Not sure who, or what species they are working with though. As far as the simplex go, they seem pretty mellow, and haven't made any escape attempts despite having a few opportunities to bail, but not sure how well they'd do completely uncovered. Mark at Anubiasdesign also has a handful of interesting and suitable anabantoids listed. You'd definitely be able to stock the whole tank off his site, and for pretty cheap. Personally, I'd go with the betta rutilans or one of the parosphromenus, and one of the boraras.

Hey thanks again. These are great tips. I think that some kind of betta will be a good choice for this setup.

Any time, man! Your threads are a joy to read through.

Likewise on the bettas. The whole island of plant material is a great approximation to the sort of vegetation they'd be used to in the wild, and it'll be really interesting to watch them build bubble nests amongst the roots.

Mark Denaro has a couple different Parosphromenus as well as a few Boraras. I am going to place an order for those as soon as I can get some more dough into my PayPal account.

Here is a quick picture from tonight. I worked on the underwater area some more and I also added fish.

I got the baby panda bamboo (Pogonatherum crinitum) growing a lot better and now it looks pretty good.

I just cleaned this tank. Tomorrow after the water has had time to clear I'll get a FTS.

I love it! That is one of the best looking ripariums, inch for inch, I have ever seen :) You should be uber proud.

Those rocks are amazing...do you think they can be purchased anywhere? I assume you found them locally.

Hey thanks!

Those rocks are old rounded bricks. I doubt that they could be purchased anywhere.
