saltwater viv construction log

well the background is gone- completly ripped out!
Iv been having ideas on making a different, better vivarium but I dont have the space for another so Im going to put those ideas into this project.
The new land area is going to be more 3d and it'l look way better than the earlier boring old driftwood and hypertufa piece of poo.
should be finished on the weekend. (I hope)
Oh man I was looking forward to seeing it up and going, but if you have a better idea i would love to see it too. You have put a lot of work into this I hope you don't give up. Keep it up, and good luck.

With the new background its up and going sooner than expected, the tank is finally finished. No fauna yet, Im going to let it grow in before introducing mrs crab and friends/food.

I havent finished the canopy yet because I have a phobia of electrics after being electrocuted in the past(not nice)

I will try and get some photos up on sunday

here are the pics, they dont do justice because of the poor lighting..

I made the new background out of tree fern root. tree fern root holds alot of water and plants and moss grow very well on it.

it still has alot of growing in to do, It will look alot better when covered in green moss and small ferns.

I still have to put sand and salt water in the tank but I have to wait for the sea to clear up before I collect it. I plan on doing %100 water changes weekly.

this is the side veiw. See the little tunnels against the glass, hopefully little crabs and other wee crustaceans will make their homes there where they can be seen.

couple of adds..

ghetto lighting
ghettolight_360x480.jpg

when I get around to making the hood Im going to use three 23w power compacts, two 6500K and one 2700K(for morning and evening). Im going to have them on independent switches so the I can increase/decrease light intensity.

the pump is small, only 3w but it provides plenty of current because there is only about 10ltrs of water to pump.
