I had the chance to get the crab that I built this thing for today.
It was a beaut too, but I had to pass, as it was far to aggressive and powerful for this vivarium.
At the moment I'm 30/70 keeping it salt or changing it to freshwater.
Salt water creates a few problems with the plants and mosses when the crabs come out and drip over them. the crabs also like to nibble the ferns.
plus water changes are more of an issue with salt water.
Also the pump died last night, which would have been a disaster if I didnt have a spare handy.
Im thinking newts would be cool, plus with fresh water the mosses would grow much better and it could grow right down to the waters edge. id have to reduce the current though.
here are a few pics i took today
new wee hermit crab
bigger hermit crab. Unfortunately I think it could be pistol food tonight.
big old anemone
random crab
mosses are doing good on the background but they suffer from salt burn near the water
tank today. I think its looking ok, but it would look a lot better with moss growing down to the water.
Im thinking of building a bigger, better, outdoor crabitat with a sump, skimmer and swamp chiller
So stay tuned...
