Setting up a new 300 gallon tank need some advice

Yes the feed button shuts the pump down completely for 10 minutes, I can handle all the water that comes down from the overflows but once the water starts to drain back down from the locline it will eventually flood my sump if I let it keep going.

So your saying just bend the locline up above the water? That would work I guess, I noticed in your picture you had a check valve on the pump but maybe that's to throttle your flow.

I hear you on the Caribsea part, that's why I thought I would just start a damsel and monitor the tank, no signs of ammonia yet, not sure if it hasn't already cycled with the live sand. I'll keep an eye on it, you think another week and I should be ok if the levels check out?

Update.

I moved my chromis fish over on Tuesday, the damsel seemed happy to see him lol, guess he was lonely in that 300 gallon by himself. They swim together and never seem far apart, I was suprised. Last night I moved over my foxface rabbitfish, caught him in a big plastic tea picture thank goodness, I didn't want to have to net him. Also moved the live rock, snails and starfish, all seem to be doing well. Levels in tank are still good.

Probably startup my skimmer this weekend. I earned a little extra money on the side, thought about purchasing a reactor.

Any thoughts on Next Reef MR1

How about media to run, just activated carbon or was thinking chem pure or chem pure elite

Didn't see your last post. That's not a check valve in my picture. It's a ball valve used to throttle back the pump if/as needed. I wasn't saying to bend the locline so it is above the water but rather just below the water line so that the siphon breaks sooner. Good go avove the water I guess but also imagine that will be messy :).

I would really reccomend that you don;t add anymore life to the tank at this point. You have a lot of water to help buffer spikes but your tank is very young and nowhere near bullet proof. Be careful not to overfeed, test often and do water changes.

That is a very good reactor. Very easy to maintain and good quality build.

Yes I just moved the locline up a bit so I don't get as much draining back down, seem to work ok when I shut the pump off and water drained down, still had some water room in my sump.

I will hold off on adding any fish for a bit, I just moved my livestock over from the 75, which wasn't too much, I felt it was safe enough and trying to keep up with 2 tanks was getting old, I just want to focus on the 300 and break down the 75 and get part of our living area back lol.

I will be keeping a close eye on ammonia for any spikes.

Any recommendations on some good Moon lighting for my tank, don't need or plan for any corals but I think better lights would show the tank off more but I don't wanna spend a whole bunch on it. Any suggestions?

So you want moon lighting or actinic lighting?

The tank is 10' long?

You can add 6 to 8 LED moonlights pretty cheaply but if you want something more than moon lights, you will spend a bit more. I would take a look here:

http://www.buildmyled.com/

Lots of options. keep in mind that you don't need LED lighting to go from end to end. I actually like some shadows on the ends to give the tank a little depth.

There are soooo many options (including DIY) but since you won't have corals, you don't need high power LEDs and drivers.

What's your budget?

That sight looks cool, Yeah some moon lightning would look nice at night, I really like that effect from what I've seen. My tank gets some decent light during the day since it's near a window.

Is there a way to show some white led's during the day and have them switch to blue in the evening?

Budget wise I'd say I like to keep it in the $150 range to do it all, anything you can recommend for me for that?

Yeah I could do that, authmal. I'm a computer guy, I got an led keyboard it's software controlled and you can change the lights from blue to green to purple whatever, something like that would be cool and save me some space on top but that might be expensive too. Definitely a good idea though, I may consider that. Thanks

Current USA has some LED lighting fixtures that are remote controlled, that have a number of settings. http://www.current-usa.com/aquarium-led-lights/satellite-freshwater-led-plus is something I'm looking at getting 3 of, 1 for each set up 10, and one for my 55. Maybe at the end of the year, early next year, when I'll also be setting up my 75 gallon marine tank.

Why no corals?

Those from Current USA would be something i like, there is no location store near me though. Any idea how much those cost? or if you can order online through someone

No corals mainly for the Extra Money I'd have to put into the system and I"m not sure I'm ready to tackle the extra work it would require, maybe someday.
