Small Tank Contest

I like the "No baby fish" rule. Post anymore rules now so you won't have any complaints in the future --- not like that would happen.. :D :thud:

I won't be in it, as the 7 gallon is not small enough.

Good luck with this "project"!!

i have a five a two and two ones running ...but my question is this , since i only havea fifty dollar spending limit my curiosity is this, i got my five gal mini bow at a yardsale for four dollars complete setup , so do i include the new price as my fifty spending or can i use my sale price and just list the new price or does the new price actually count for my spending limit?...sorry to get so technical here ..lol

ideally you should list the price you should of paid and that would be deducted from your limit...That will give a more accurate representation of cost to those that have a small tank and want to do somthing with it. I have a heater that cost me 11.00...However the true value is 30 dollars...I will deduct the 30 from my limit and make a note about what i actually paid...

I'd love to be able to put together a nano reef for $50.

I hope it'd be counted so I can see where the money goes..

Hello all :) Lately I have noticed an increase of questions from people with small tanks and what to do with them....I thought i might be fun to have a contest involving tanks under 5 gals.. Members could post pics, specs and cost of their small set ups and perhaps it could form an archive that could be used by others with small tanks. The only criteria is that it is a safe, healthy environment for the selected species, ie. if it has tropical fish, it must have a suitable heater, filter etc....Inhabitants can be fish, frogs, or invertabrates...plants can be live or fake...Limit is 50 US or 70 Canadian spent...If using "used" equipment, include the price to purchase new...Entries can be e mailed to me and I will post them here annonymously..
Let me know if anyone is interested...I will award 25 dollars (US, to US folk, CDN to canadian folk) to the person that can come up with the most interesting tank. Winner can be decided by votes from AC members. Let me know what you think.

So wait, UNDER 5 gallons or 5 gallons and under? I'm confused about the spending limit, too. If what I SHOULD'VE paid for it is OVER $50, may I still enter? Because one realizes you can't buy a 5 gallon for less than about $40 (new)! Great idea! :)

Just when I was about to tally up how much Mini-Malawi is worth. :(
Nice pic and clean water. What size tank is normal for adult Malawi?

My big Malawi setup is 55 gallons with 7 fish. The 2 fry in this tank were spawned in the 55.

Here's a question. Any chance we could up the gallon limit to 5.5? :) A 16x8x10 glass aquarium is 5.5 gallons and cheap. The next smallest size is 2.5 gallons and it's less than a dollar difference. Right now I'm planning on the 2.5, but having a few extra inches of space would be much easier to work with. All my other components would stay the same. Or can i just lie and say that it's 5 gallons because the rocks, gravel, and filter take up half a gallon? :D
