I think my Brigs and shrimp outcompete the pest snails for food. I probably have 10 or 15 ramshorns in my 55 and wish I had more to feed my assassins in another tank.
You really can't avoid having snails in a planted aquarium. Buy enough plants, and you will get MTS and bladder snails.
Be careful because some snails generically called Myster or Apple snails will eat plants. You want the species called pomecea diffusa, non-planted eaters. Generally the gold or blue ones found in pet stores are the right species.
I doubt you'll encounter the canas (Pomacea canaliculata) easily as interstate shipping for these species is banned although some stores sometimes sell them and mistake them for Pomacea diffusa. Canas are voracious plant eaters. I have plenty here and they eat every plant in sight.:22_yikes:whoa, thats scary. hahaha.
thanks!
