Snails not coming out of shell?

Do you still have planaria? I had a massive slaughter of snails when I was recovering from surgery when the snail tank developed planaria. I will have to look for the article, but I once read that planaria can sting. Its possible if they are still there they are part of the problem. The little darting things are probably copepods. I am relieved to hear they were fine in your community tank. How long is left to your ich treatment? Since those are baby snails, I am very concerned that they are not eating. they cannot go as long as adults under stressful conditions.

Ich treatment has just started. It'll be another week to week and a half before I begin diluting the salt out of the community tank.

I'm afraid the snails will have to live in a tupperware with daily or bi-daily water changes until then.

That will be fine. With how small they are, I don't see it being a huge issue. I wish you were closer, i would lend you a tank!

Well, within 10 minutes of putting them in the tupperware with some tank water, and slowly adding fresh water, they are already opening up their trap doors. I also dropped the zucchini and spinach in there for the rest of today so that they might eat.

I am relieved that they are ok. If this batch of gudgeon fry don't make it, I am going to break down the fry tank, take out the gravel, and start fresh in time for the next batch of fry. I really want to keep my Brigs in there as a cleaning crew and infusoria supplementer.

I am wondering. When you used the tank or substrate previously was there any meds used that had copper in them? Or did you purchase the tank or substrate new or used, maybe the previous owner did? I have heard that there are some things that once they are used in a tank snails can NEVER be housed in the tank. I know it is a long shot, but if the snails are opening up now that they are out of that tank, maybe that is it.

Keep us posted on how they are doing, I am glad to hear it sounds promising. I would make sure that if you are not home, you try and cover the tupperware with something that can breath, they can leave containers/tanks.

I will do that, Rach. Would some saran with pinholes punched in it do the trick?

*sigh*

They have gone back into their shells and have not come back out. I can't tell you how badly I just want them to snail around and be happy. :(

How are they doing?? Been wondering.
