I am currently letting my spinach soak in some tap water and garlic on a small plate on the counter. How long should I do this? It's for my clown plecos.
Probably don't need more than a few minutes -- garlic's pretty strong. You could also rub the spinach with a cut clove to the same effect, I think.
Be sure to put a little de-chlor in that tap water! (Actually, I don't think that little amount would hurt the fish, but I'm extra-cautious that way. :lipssealedsmilie
I wouldn't say that. It's sort of an experiment for several reasons. They won't come out during the day at all unless I throw an algae disc right by the wood. They're less than a year old. They have this huge piece of driftwood to live in and won't leave it unless the lights are out or if the house is perfectly silent. If I sneak a peak, they run for cover.
I thought this might help if I start it a couple times a week. I have a hunch they like meat (brine shrimp) better anyway.
If they don't try it, the other fish might pick it apart.
Soak some courgette[zucchini] in garlic as you are doin with the spinach. You could also t stick algae wafers and shrimp pellets into the courgette. I have also found my clown plec loves raw prawns.
Just to be on the safe side i would. Another possible reason could be a lot of competition for food, meanin your clown plec doesn't feel safe enough to venture out during day time. You say you have a large piece of driftwood. Maybe adding a couple more smaller pieces to create more hidin places might make it feel safer and braver and come out more.
