I am currently letting my spinach soak in some tap water and garlic on a small plate on the counter. How long should I do this? It's for my clown plecos.

TIA!

:grinyes:

Probably don't need more than a few minutes -- garlic's pretty strong. You could also rub the spinach with a cut clove to the same effect, I think.

Be sure to put a little de-chlor in that tap water! (Actually, I don't think that little amount would hurt the fish, but I'm extra-cautious that way. :lipssealedsmilie:)

Me too. It's in a little tiny tea cup plate and it barely covers the bottom of the plate.

I think I'll dose the tank after I add the veggies. Or should I add a drop to the plate now?

Just a couple of mins soaking really. Are you havin trouble feeding your plec.

I wouldn't say that. It's sort of an experiment for several reasons. They won't come out during the day at all unless I throw an algae disc right by the wood. They're less than a year old. They have this huge piece of driftwood to live in and won't leave it unless the lights are out or if the house is perfectly silent. If I sneak a peak, they run for cover.

I thought this might help if I start it a couple times a week. I have a hunch they like meat (brine shrimp) better anyway.

If they don't try it, the other fish might pick it apart.

I did add a drop of dechlor to be safe.

The clown loaches and barbs are giving it a sniff. No clicks yet.

Soak some courgette[zucchini] in garlic as you are doin with the spinach. You could also t stick algae wafers and shrimp pellets into the courgette. I have also found my clown plec loves raw prawns.

I'll try that with the zucchini. Next time should I use tank water?

The clown loaches and black ruby and tiger barbs are enjoying it. No sign of the plecos. Too early maybe.

Just to be on the safe side i would. Another possible reason could be a lot of competition for food, meanin your clown plec doesn't feel safe enough to venture out during day time. You say you have a large piece of driftwood. Maybe adding a couple more smaller pieces to create more hidin places might make it feel safer and braver and come out more.

They just don't like me walking by all the time (or my 7 year old son). :headshake2:

One is thinking about it now. She's under the ledge. Maybe I should click off the light. Yeah, I'll try that.
