Somethingfishy.com Discus, Yay!!!

you must be the only person that got good discus from them they screwed me...

sorry to hear that. that's the major reason I didn't pull the trigger with him. too many bad/horror stories. the op was real lucky.

Tell me about it.

I must have gotten really lucky, then. What happened? It might help the next person decide if they would want to risk it. I wouldn't want to tell people it's great, if people should steer clear. My personal experience was fine, but I've actually heard some bad press, since then. They have a bad better business bureau rating, I've heard, and numerous other things. Bad customer reviews, mainly. :yuck: Do a google search, if you want the full scoop.

i wouldnt buy anything from them they are not honest or truthfull, and the fish ive seen i wouldnt take home if i had to keep them .they are culls....

Well this is real sad news =\ I was hoping to buy some from this place on Thursday.. I still might. Maybe they're changing their ways? I sent them an email just asking some questions, we'll see =)

Buyer Beware!

If you want to risk getting stunted or deformed fish, then buy away. I, personally, had a good experience, but the more I read, the more I'm thinking I got lucky or just don't know what I'm looking at. If you don't mind the risk, and want to try very cheap discus, this might be for you. Personally, I feel, I got a good deal for a little over a hundred dollars. The shipping came to a little over $50.00, and I didn't buy the cheapest discus they had. I liked the natural type coloration, so, bought reds, and blues. They're on sale, at the moment. They love freeze dried, live foods(daphnia, bloodworms, spirulina brine shrimp, small shrimps, tubifex worms), absolutely love frozen live foods(bloodworms, the european shrimp mix, with spirulina, mysis shrimp, brine shrimp), and will pick at flake, when I'm not looking. They show lines off, and on. They are, also, showing they're colors a little darker, but that's opposed to my qauarantine tank(20H barebottomed, daily 100% water changes, 5 or six feedings a day, lots of filtration, lots of aeration, as opposed to a 75 gallon, co2 injected, 4 or 5 times feeding, planted, eco-complete planted substrate, and angelfish in the tank). This is the kind of discussion I wish I'd found, before deciding to buy from them. Please, comment negatively, if that was your experience. It can only help the next responsible aquarist.

felixpaws....you did get lucky. You may be the only person who's ever gotten lucky with discus from them. They have one of the worst reputations of any on-line fish supplier.

He didn't use plastic jars for mine. He used two, thick walled, plastic bags, each fish, with the lower half colored blue, for the fishes sense of security, a styrofoam box, then inside a cardboard box. I really was very surprised by all the negative experiences. Except for the low price of the fish, I had no indication there was any problem. I should have known, based on price. This website, actually, discusses somethingsphishy.com a couple of times, and I get the sense a lot of people have had bad experiences. They warn you on the site that there are few exceptions for returns, and they have specific rules about dead fish, and problems with shipping. I'd like some specific complaints. The discus aren't the best quality, maybe, but for under $10.00? What do people expect? Anyway, I'd probably order from a more reputable dealer, for my second experience.
