I have the worst sore throat ever and I could really use some remedies that have worked for you guys. I've done hot tea with honey and lemon, spicy soup, throat spray, halls defense and sadly nyquil doesn't seem to have much effect on me anymore because I took it 3 hours ago and should be asleep, but instead am awake and miserable! I've been taking tons of vitamin C to try to shake this off as soon as I can but this sore throat is the pits. I'd take a runny or stuffy nose over this any day. Suggestions please!!!!!

Ricola? I wish I could help more but you already tried honey/lemon/tea. Otherwise, try honey/lemon/tea and just substitute bourbon for tea. Hope you feel better.

Old time remedy is to gargle with very hot salt water. As hot as you can handle. Obviously not boiling and do not swallow.

Yeah, gargling with salt water helps...if the sore throat is caused by your nose running down your throat, an expectorant like Mucinex (Guaifenesin, talk about a spelling bee word! lol) will help because it will thin it out.

I take capsules of oil of oregano and garlic oil every time I get sick, works for me to abbreviate the cold...zinc and Vitamin C work too!

Extra strength tylenol or ibuprofen usually works for me....but if you've already taken nyquil you should wait for your current dose to wear off first.

Many years ago (25+) my grandfather used to suck on zinc tablets whenever he had a sore throat...the rest of the family thought he was nuts. Then 15 years ago, research said that zinc was actually beneficial for shortening the length of a cold.

Who knew? My grandfather...that's who.

Read the fine print--in some individuals, Nyquil causes insomnia. I can't take it at all. The Dayquil stuff works fine and doesn't mess with my sleep patterns. Identify why your throat is sore, and treat that--more effective, IMO.

Second the salt water. I just do warm...not hot...but VERY salty. You can do it repeatedly too. Are you sure it is not strep throat? Tis the season. Hope you feel better soon!!

Apple Cider Vinegar mixed with a little honey works well for me, or a hot totty sometimes works.

I believe the "sleepy making" ingredient in Nyquil is the same ingredient as in Benadryl, that stuff makes me crazy...messes with my mind. It's like I'm tranquilized, can't really move, but my mind is thinking all sorts of strange things. Not a "good trip" either, so I stay away from these and other antihistamines that induce this hypnotic effect.
