Well, I still haven't got it done but I wanted to let ya's know I haven't forgotten you. This stupid weather we have been having has just been crazy! We even had thunder and lightening at the same time it was snowing!!! I did take some pics of the stuff I did get cut to at least show I really HAVE done something!

Yep...got it figured out (also figured out I should wear some sort of glasses while cutting) boy that saw dust stuff can FLY! After I cut the first one it hit me I should probably label them so I didn't end up cutting them wrong.
Anything I should do to try and not let the wood split when putting the screws in?
Pilot holes come to mind.
Also clean up the saw cuts so the glue has 2 smooth surfaces. That's going to be the most important thing since the glue will give 90% of the strength to the joint. Put your rails together first then add the legs to that. Are you going to have a lower shelf (recommended)? That will prevent the legs from splaying and will add rigidity.

One is going to have a shelf, yes. The other I figured I'd make the bottom like the top...could add a shelf to that too. At this rate, it's going to be next year before I have anything

Not sure I understand this. You should have two frames. One that the tank will rest on. The second a few inches (6?) for a shelf for the filter, food, whatever. The only thing touching the floor will be the four legs.
Yes that's what a pilot hole is. You could start the screw in a pilot hole that's the size of the screw shaft in that part of the leg and run the actual threads into the 2 x 4 on edge. Then you won't split it.
Shouldn't have the bottom resting right on the floor. It makes it hard to level. Look at most of your furniture. (Unless it's that high quality stuff Rooms to Go sells. OK Sarcasm here) Only four points actually touch the floor. Even you kitchen cabinets. They wind up being shimmed to level and a trim is added so it looks like it's on the floor. 1/4 round or base shoe to hide the shims. 4 points of contact.
