Stocking list for my 55 gal.

Thanks TL! I was looking into both of those crabs actually! I do have a glass tops for the main tank!

Ok, so I ordered a clean up crew from reefcleaners.com and boy to my surprise did I get ly moneys worth! Was supposed to get around 80 smaller snails and a few hermits.... Well I think I have well over a hundred dwarf cerith snails.... Am I going to have enough stuff growing to feed all of them? It just seems really excessive!!

He also sent a lot of extras.... Some sort of conch, and I think its a chiton.. any opinions on them? Am I IDing correctly? The thing that I think is a chiton is in some sort of mollusk half shell... Will it love out of there or stay? He also sent some chaeto and some other sort of macro algae not sure what to do with them, I don't have a refugium.... Can I place them in display and let the snails and such eat it? For now I put it in my empty quarantine tank...

1. Chaeto (good but not really display macro)
2. Conch (excellent detrivor)
3. Grap caulerpa (very invasive and wouldn't add it to my tank [or sump] for all the corals in the ocean). Give it to your LFS.
4. Fuzzy chiton (excellent!).

Reefcleaners is well known for sending way more than what you order (and way more than you need).

What Greech said. The chaeto you could stick behind your rocks or consider adding a HOB fuge. Caulerpa is fuge safe if you run lighting 24/7 to keep it from going sexual, its supposed to be even better then chaeto for nitrate reduction but again it needs lighting 24/7 to keep it from being invasive.

Thanks guys! I'm all kinds of excited!! The chiton and the conch are totally awesome bonuses!! I wish I had a refugium to keep the chaeto... Don't think I will put it In the display, arms like it would just get shredded in the current... (i already tried, ill be picking the stuff outta the tank for a month) any ideas? Could I put it in some sort of a bag or like a nylon stocking? It's not a very big ball, but Im assuming it would get bigger.

Also I'm Little worried that I don't have enough algae growing yet to few all these animals... Could I drop in the algae waffers to supplement?

You could do that or just trade a bunch of them for a few dollars in credit at your LFS or just give them to fellow hobbiests in your area.

IMO, you have way too many snails for a 55.

Chaeto won;t do much good in a bag. It need to grow to do its job.

Thanks greech for the advice, I think I will take your advice and get rid of a lot of the snails, and the plants too!!

So, I have been reading a lot and think that Im changing my stock list.. here is an updated list.
1 firefish
2 occelaris clowns
1 Goby/pistol combo
1 yellow coris wrasse
1 flame angel
2-3 pepermint shrimp
2 cleaner shrimp
2 blue porc. Crabs

So, my question is, if I get a yellow wrasse would it make a meal of my ornamental shrimps/crabs?

Also, is that a good order to put the fish in?

Any advice is welcome!!

Chances are it will. It may not happen right away but odds are the coris will eat your shrimp and porcelain crabs one by one. How about a fairy or flasher wrasse? Stock list looks good though.

Thanks Patrick! So far I'm loving it!! Actually got my first fishes today! I picked up 2 tank raised perculas!! Was going to get firefish first, buy my kids really wanted the clowns.. they didn't have occelaris so percs it was! They are currently in my QT but can't wait(but will) to get them in the DT.

So, greech, do you think if I added shrimps first before yellow wrasse they would be a little better off? As far as the flasher and fairy wrasse that you suggested, I kinda thought that they were like uber timid, and the flame angel would bully them around too much... I do like those wrasses, but I dont want something that won't be able to hang with the flame Angel. Would you suggest otherwise?
