As I have been watching this tank I have had some interesting ideas come to mind because of the differing growth rates im seeing.
If these are cichlids who are usually mouth brood, I am wondering if the strong usually eat the weak in the mouth? The reason why I am wondering this is because of the huge difference in growth ratios of these fish.
I have been feeding a variety of ingredients to the tank. Small marine pellets, color enhancing crisps, ocean nutrition cichlid flakes, blood worms, plankton and cyclopeeze baby food. I have been trying to make it so that all levels of the tank have a chance to eat. Specifically I have been using the cyclopeeze for the very tiny tiny ones who have not seemed to put on much growth.
This has become sort of like a science experiment for me, hence my ? about whether or not the strong eat the weak in the mouth brood situation.
At tops the longest of the largest fry is roughly 1 inch and the smallest are really small, will take some pics tonight. The body shape does indeed look cichilidish. I wonder if the striping is something that subdues as the fish goes to juvi hood.
I even pushed off the lady who wanted this set up for $250 as I do not want to imbalance the fishes world by trying to move them. Will take a few pics tonight if I don't forget my camera at work lol.
