strange happenings with your tanks

Did you have any black neon tetras in there? That's what they remind me of...

As I have been watching this tank I have had some interesting ideas come to mind because of the differing growth rates im seeing.

If these are cichlids who are usually mouth brood, I am wondering if the strong usually eat the weak in the mouth? The reason why I am wondering this is because of the huge difference in growth ratios of these fish.

I have been feeding a variety of ingredients to the tank. Small marine pellets, color enhancing crisps, ocean nutrition cichlid flakes, blood worms, plankton and cyclopeeze baby food. I have been trying to make it so that all levels of the tank have a chance to eat. Specifically I have been using the cyclopeeze for the very tiny tiny ones who have not seemed to put on much growth.

This has become sort of like a science experiment for me, hence my ? about whether or not the strong eat the weak in the mouth brood situation.

At tops the longest of the largest fry is roughly 1 inch and the smallest are really small, will take some pics tonight. The body shape does indeed look cichilidish. I wonder if the striping is something that subdues as the fish goes to juvi hood.

I even pushed off the lady who wanted this set up for $250 as I do not want to imbalance the fishes world by trying to move them. Will take a few pics tonight if I don't forget my camera at work lol.

sorry for my delay

I have a bunch of tetras and barbs in the tank as well as calico comets and the pictured cichlids.

i offered the lady a brand new 45g or a 65g but she is totally solid sold on this 55g

was funny today she came in and told me she would wait

no trace now thats weird

Ok so I took a few shots last night and here they are. Again what is puzzling me about these fry is 2 things. If they are cichlid they have got to be the slowest growing fry I have ever had show up. The coloration on the body does not match the only cichlids I had in the tank. At any rate here are the pics I took last night.

usually I would not let any algae grow but I am trying to breed out the snails and also have watched the little fish picking at it themselves so I think to them its a food source.

Only strange happening that have happened is here is a male red korthausae keeled over dead. I prefer the surprise babies.
I am very curious to see what these develop into.

Hmmmm.... please keep the updates coming, this is very entertaining. Maybe your wife or kids snuck them in there and are playing a trick on you.

I agree with Debby in the fact that these do look a lot like Pygmy Cories, but like everybody else had said, I'm guessing they're Cichlids.
