SUNSUN HW-302 Outside Filter setup & test

When you say the intake do you mean the intake for the impeller to pump water back into the tank? If so what you are saying is correct the holes in the baskets are NOT where the water exits the canister they are where the water enters. The canister works like this ... the water enters the canister and goes down through the hole in the baskets (and past the UV if one is fitted) to the bottom then rises up through the media baskets to the top where it is captured by the impeller and exits the canister back to the tank.

If your talking about that 'hole' that runs down the side of all of the baskets and the top protector, then yes they are all allined but the intake does not sit over the hole.. because its on the opposite corner if you kniow what I mean. Like its impossible to alline the intake to the line of holes...

I think Haydn2 indicated in his last post that he already figured the problem was elementary and that all he had to do was turn each baskets to align all inflow pipes with the canister lid inflow port, or vise-versa.
 
I've just had news that the new Sun Sun HW-402,403,404 and the bigger 720gph 405's will be here next week. The differences are a new more effective priming mechanisum and a carrying handle built into the lid. As soon as we get them out of the container I will take pics.
 
The first batch of containers of them are shipping out of China in February 2011 they will be for sale shortly afterward. They were supposed to be here before Xmas but we only got 300 series.
 
Yeah I figured it out. I didn't have the holes lined up with the intake hole in the top compartment. I'm in Canberra btw :)
 
I just got my Sunsun 303a in today. The box had two giant holes in the sides from shipping but all of my parts came totally in tact. But I didn't get my skimmer, sad face. Its not that big of a deal but would have been nice. I'll try to post some pics tomorrow.
 
Any word on the new 400 series?

I've been running a 302 on my 29g for about a year and it's been great. I'll be upgrading to a 75g soon (finishing up the stand) and am wondering if the 302 will be sufficient filtration for the 75g. I've been looking for a 304 but maybe I'll stick with the 302 until the 400 series comes out and give one of them a try.
 
If your hart is really set on an inline stacked filter design, your better off just getting another 302 which will give you more total GPH then a 304 by far, and you will be increasing your total top basket surface area by at least a 3rd over just one 304 alone. You'll have better flow dispersal and a built in back up encase one fails, pulse more options should you need to cycle another tank. I would do this if there was not a new far more powerful and cost effective option then both those filters combined, which there is.

If you really want a filter that is going to perform head and shoulders above the 302 and 304 combined for the price of a 302, this is what I highly recommend. But remember we are talking results not looks or fun basket culture http://www.aquariacentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=239484
