I would like some advice on how to divide my fish up that will make the best environments for each of the tanks (I am hoping to end up with 2 tanks unless I must absolutely must have more).
Glad your back, but I think my 2nd post about your fish got swallowed up in the argument…

As mentioned already your sharks, pleco and catfish(depends on type) grow too large for either of your tanks. You really should find another home for these; they just won’t survive with any amount of health for long if you keep them. Also, your crawfish will be fine one day and then you’ll wake up the next with half your tank gone. They get big and they eat anything they can catch, which will eventually be everything in your tank.

As I’ve mentioned before, your Puffer really require a species only tank, I like dorkfish’s idea of making the 20g for this guy.

Buy a cheep 10g for the beta, or wait for garage sales and get free. He just won’t get along with most of the fish you already have, but until then you could keep him in the 29g.

Keep the Tetras (add more), Gourami, Angel fish, and beta in the 29g and your puffer in the 20g and return everything else. You could further add a couple more fish to your 29. Much of what you’d have in the 29 is similar to what I already have, see sig below.

Keep posting questions as you have them, most people here want to help.

I think the sarcastic tenor there is what put her off, graphic.

No, I think I was put off by the question and the original post and figured it for a troll so I responded with some sarcasm. This is a newbie fish hobbyist forum, not a nursery school.

Remember, this is the newbie forum and everyone doesn't have the basic understanding from which to ask coherent questions.

I seem to remember incoherent posts being part of the problems AC has had recently in the first place. I won't name any names...

She obviously didn't know her stocking was incorrect.

Yes, and so I encouraged her to ask a responsible question, basically "feeling out" whether or not the poster was serious about getting information, or if they were just another incarnation of P***.

Instead of offering some suggestions you threw a couple comments at her and made her feel like crap. Not much has changed since your self-imposed exile, has it?

Nope, you're still a d!ck

Please, let's all try and be nice--both to newbies and to each other, eh? If you don't like someone, there's absolutely no reason to bring it up on the forums. We're here to HELP people, remember?

I have no reason to be nice to Roan, she used me for a ton of input on her crappy site and then kicked me off of it because I ruffled feathers here at AC. She's a two-faced b****. I am helping people. I help educate them not to visit Roan's site. If she's allowed to promote her site on AC (and she does, like coca-cola at a rock concert), I should be allowed to share my experiences visiting her site also.

I don't appreciate you editing my posts OG, there was nothing in it before other than that someone slandered Roan "for good reason" which was vague and impersonal. You edited it to appease that two-faced b**** and so now I've gotten specific.

I'll await the inevitable ban.

It seems to me people have lost their tact here, and the reason this post was started has been lost to personal attacks and resentment. I’m sad to see a person who needed help tossed into an argument because some people can not remove their personal feelings.

I appreciate candor and directness, but it can be delivered without offending or turning into a personal attack. Can we please air our differences elsewhere?

Karla83401, I apologize again, as I said before, a simple typo and general misunderstanding has been taken to a place it shouldn't have gone.

That depends on the betta, some make great community fish, some will try and kill all other fish. You really can't say a betta will or will not get along with other fish, unless you have tried keeping the individual fish with other fish. I say if he is getting along with the other fish, than he will get along with the other fish; if he isn't then he won't.

Good Evening,

I have been trying to do some research on exactly what fish I have as in specific type. So far this is what I have found out. My pleco is an albino chocolate and will grow much larger than I was told. My catfish is an "pictus" and my reading indicates that he should do fine in the 29 gallon tank. My sharks are the Bala type and from what I have read will grow quite large.

I contacted the pet store where I purchased them and they will not take back any fish so I am trying to figure out what to do next. I must admit that I am angry with them because I tried to be responsible in setting up my tank and now it appears that I am in a mess. I am considering my opinions...such as trying to save towards a huge tank and dividing everyone up, or running an ad. But whatever I do, I feel very responsible for these fish. Sorry about the venting. I will simply try to make the right choices from here on out and be careful about who I take advice from and consider their motives.

Thank you all for your advice and guidance as I try to take care of the things. I do appreciate all of efforts to help me.

Karla

I would suggest calling some other stores. Many stores will take fish in trade or for store credit, as they can sell them for a nice markup.

1 Pictus might fit a 29, but not with a bunch of other fish. I would even say 29 is the barest minimum for a lone pictus.

Balas need about 110 gallons minimum.

Don't feel bad about it. Many of us are in the same boat. Some LFS (local fish store) salesperson sounded really, really knowledgable and made the fish sound perfect.

Only after do we find out they were wrong. Some lie. Some just pretend to know what they are talking about. Either way, that leaves us to deal with it.

If you are not prepared to spend on a much larger tank (75+) for the shark and pleco, my advice would be to put an ad in the paper to send these fish to someone with a tank large enough. At least then you are finding a humane solution to your problem.

Then you can concentrate on the smaller fish (gouramis, tetras, mollies, etc)

Let us know how you make out.

Yeah, I agree..... instead of saving your money and hoping to get a bigger tank in the future, I would call around to other pet stores. Just because one won't take the fish, another will. It took me a couple tries before I found one... and they give store credit for the fish, once it's established that the fish is healthy and thriving.

You just gave me an idea, DD ;)
