The 75gal reef tank cycle has started!!!!!!!

I have to say that this hobby is anything but boring. Tonight we had another issues. This time it was with the new tank. Now I know it is not the best setup you can get by far but tonight when my GF was trying to do a water change on the tank the filter stopped working. All she did was unplug it while she did the WC and when she plugged it back in the motor wouldn't turn. Now we had to go back to Pet Smart and get a replacement filter. That is some list for two days. I have definitely gotten a crash course in the SW world. When I think I just started this project 1/21/08 it blows my mind.

Well I guess that is everything that has happened today I'll post again soon I'm sure.

Can I ask why you were doing a water change on the new tank when its still cycling?? I would just leave it alone until the cycle is complete.

No she has her fish from her tank here because her gramma has Ick. She is doing water changes ever 12 hours to lower the SG to kill the Ick. This is on the QT tank not the 75.

oooooooooooo you said the new tank so I thought you meant yours. Sorry.

Yeah no it was my falt. It was late when I posted that and forgot to say it was the QT tank.

On pumps for saltwater, it is common to have to knock them around a little bit to get them restarted. My phosban reactor pump is famous for this. Every single time I unplug it I have to bang it against the glass baffle to get it going again.

Shouldn't happen on a new tank/filter though... usually tanks a few months before that problem starts happening on smaller/cheap pumps.

Yeah well just short of smashing it that didn't help. Both of us took a shot at it. Trust me. LOL
