The Reading Room

Have you read Snow Crash by Stephenson? I read it in '99 or so, and really enjoyed it. It's set in an alternate 21st century, complete US dystopia, technology is taking over, etc. It was pretty good.

 I agree - that was a good book! You can also try "Doomsday Book" by Connie Willis, about a graduate student who is transported back to 14th century England during the black plague. Also good is is "Children of Men" by PD James. I think they made a movie of it, but I'm sure it was bad. The book takes place in around the year 2000, but all childbirth has stopped. The last child was born in 1995, but there are no more (no one knows why). Society breaks down, people's behavior becomes very distorted, all because what future is there? If I remember correctly, the book starts slow, but stick it out.

Your local library probably has both, or can get them for you through another library.

lol thanks...are you a Reading Rainbow representative? what is LeVar Burton really like :grinyes:
