They spawned

Oh i know its for the better. I will end up culling weak ones too. Normal for some losses. I definitely dont expect all 200 to live! Most will probably die off, thats normal.

My problem also is the salvinia is dying off fast without proper lighting and in such a small space i worry about an ammonia spike too. So removed it now before it got worse.

No worries on being offended, its nature ;)

Day 10. The image is supposed to say day 10

I wont do too many daily updates with photos unless there are major changes.

Im starting to wonder if these guys are even growing at all, theyre still on infusoria feedings, but one feeding a day starting on fine powdered foods and ive introduced cyclops to the incubator. An egg carrying female was put in, so when eggs hatch there will be small foods for them to start weaning off the infusoria

I increased amount of aeration now since the fry swim stronger. I also added more filter media from the main tank's filter.
I had no losses today, but yesterday i lost 7. That was before adding more aeration.

Ive moved all the fry to the grow out tub, but only am keeping the water at 5- 7 gallons while theyre this size... once they grow larger, ill increase the amount of water. It is a 20 gallon tote bin.

Still no heater, so using the heat lamp under the tote inside a metal mixing bowl. New heater should arrive in a few weeks still... heavens know lol

Day 13, im starting to see their bodies develop the taller body shape of DG.

Had to move the grow out to beside our baseboard heater and turned the heat on... the heat lamp wasnt efficient enough to heat it in the grow out. Now its back to a steady 80F. Good humidity levels too.

Ordered Hikari First Bites and they arrived today. Theyve been eating that each feeding. Theyre big enough for it now too. I should be able to say bye to infusoria...

Look in front of the thermometer, you can see a fry. Thats how small they still are. Thats just one of them floating glass thermometers.

Water is stained from the indian almond leaves.

Well, unfortunately, found the smaller fry didnt take the tank transfer well. I did my water change (fry tank getting water changes every other day) and found a huge number of smaller fry gone.

The few survivors are double the size of the ones that were lost, so there's hope they are the stronger ones.

But, still, cant help the feeling of wondering where i went wrong.

My last feeding, ive maybe seen 3 or 4. That's all. So maybe more are hiding under the leaves, but not many.

Oh my! That's many, many more loses than I thought. I'm very sorry & hope there are some hiding. This was kind of an experimental round for you & them both. There will be a next time when you have a heater eventually & a better idea of just how many fry there can be. Look on it as a learning practice round. You have done a great job for 2 weeks!

My last feeding of the night, only 2. Few more dead.

I also think many have stopped growing so i really dont know what happened. I feel like they havent changed since day 6 much for size.

But, this was a surprise spawning and i expected it to fail earlier in than now. I dont have much hopes for the last two, given the sudden and steady downhill. Ill try again one day. For better or worse, it was still a valuable experience.

I think i will try out with cories before i try these guys a second spawning though. Maybe easier. I got a male weitzmani who has been chasing after the girls of other species, so maybe once the one i think is a girl is mature, i will try out with them. Cory babies are born larger.

Can only find one this morning
