Things LFS employees told you that you knew weren't true

My lfs had wisteria in there plant tank marked something completely different. When I said that isn't wisteria, and pointed to the tank below and said that is. The owner tells me well we got in these two plants at the same time and they weren't marked. He then proceeded to switched them.

Goldfish will thrive in a five gallon tank as they only grow to their environnment

Zebra danios a pearl danios were strictly coldwater species and cant be kept in tropical/temperate tanks

You cant keep plecs* and corys together in the same tank

Haha on all of these occasions I have corrected them. My explanations often lasted quite a while ;)

Next time I'll tel;l them that there is a great site called Aquariacentral.com which they should visit!!!!

I never actually ask employees for advice. However, awhile back my parents set up a 55 gallon with the help of an employee. They did not cycle the tank. Ended up buying an oscar, a common pleco, a parrot fish, two silver dollars, and a couple of sharks of some sort.

If it's a loach, I can ID it. My LFS knows this, and they are great, responsible hobbyists who really know their fish...

But for some reason beyond me, they refuse to sell a full-grown (about 5.0") Yo-Yo loach under the right name. I can only ask them so much, as I'd love to buy it, but they are being stubborn about it. A five year old could distinguish a Yo-Yo Botia Loach from an Angelicus Botia Loach, but they are calling it the latter and slapping a $30.00 price tag on it for being so large. Ugh.

I've been meaning to rant about that to somebody.

1) There are no minimum amounts of cory's needed to be kept together. This was after I asked (because I forgot) what the minimum amount of cories needed to be kept together. I knew that was wrong and that they had to be kept in groups. I couldn't remember what the group number was. He lost a sale that day. I was going to buy 5 cories but wasn't sure what the minimum was. If he told me it was 6, I would have boughten 6.

2) That tanks over 300 gallons never have to be changed. They have a 900 gallon tank there and I said wow water changes in that must be fun. The owner of the LFS said, We don't do water changes on that tank ever, Tanks over 300 gallons don't need a water change.

Had someone come in to the LFS i work at, and asked me to get 6 neon tetras....for their 2.5 gallon that they had just set up an hour ago, when i explained to them why this wouldn't work out, they told me a lady from another LFS had told them it would be ok, in the end they ended up walking out on me, saying that they would prefer to get them at the other LFS because the lady there said it would be fine
