This is completely outrageous!!!!

How to kill it though?
 
OMG!!

If youre going to kill it, THEN MAIL IT TO ME SO I CAN ATLEAST GIVE IT TO THE LFS!!! Or atleast set up a temporairy 10g and bring it to the store next trip!!

If you take a fish, then dont kill it!! It was never expecting this, its like a family member getting a dog at the SPCA and then putting it down because "I dont want it"!!

You have responsibility to living animals that you catch / keep!! That is to give them a GOOD home and a good life! Not kill it and dispose of the body!!

Barbaric people are on here!!
 
A search in the forums will yield several threads on euthanizing fish. Some very debatable and very passionate viewpoints.

If he is in your tank, he may get nipped on. Do not put him in the lake.
 
Most humane way to put him down is to put him in a bowl and put it in the freezer. He will just go to sleep at a certain temperature. Sad to do, but sometimes unavoidable. btw, if you go to your LFS, they'll have a tank with probably 100-200 of those, being sold as feeders, 10 for $1.00 Take him to your LFS if you can't put him down yourself. Adding a 20g or similar for that fish is going to be equally cruel in the long run, because a comet will outgrow most common tanks. Comets can easily get 12" and are best kept in ponds.
 
But until they go to the NSLFS, they can keep him!!
 
The carnival in my town last year had a good idea. Instead of winning a live fish, you won a coupon to the pet store here in town for a free fish, or you could trade it in for another prize.
 
I'll find him a new home, in the mean time I'll keep him in my tank. I brought the tank's temp down to 77 degrees. Atleast it isn't 81 anymore. It's rather funny, this fish hangs out with my tigers. I guess they don't know any better. But thanks to all for their opinions and what not.
