turtle people! i need your help!

at least until he's big enough to fend for himself. maybe a little longer than that >.> i'd like to see how long i can properly keep him, but that will really depend on things i can't forsee atm. i've designed a tank layout for him, but that's contigent on getting a tank first ;)

Very nice! I would consider doing a little turtle pond! They're rather easy if you're doing a small one. I mean, you can go to the pet store and buy a little plastic one, or get a kids swimming pool :) I built one of those and had baby painted turtles (native to where I am). They were about the size of the one you have... the wandered on over (from where, I don't know). I fenced it with some gardening fence. I would screen it in though to protect them from critters. What's great is they'll hybernate out there over winter. Or you can take them in and moniter their hybernation. Just some thoughts :) He really is amazingly cute!

i can't... i rent, and i can't stick anything in the ground or alter anything outside except the contents of the flower beds. v.v; god, that would be sweet, though...

Oh I'm sorry :( Could still work out indoor hybernation! Or maybe sneak an indoor kids pool in... LOL! Turtles are just so amazing :)

The setup looks pretty good so far. If you're going to keep that turtle for a while don't forget that you need to have some UVB lighting. It is very important at this age when it's going through a rapid growth stage. You might also want to pick up a small internal filter for the tub unless you want to do water changes everyday. How warm is the water/basking spot?

it's room temperature right now, which is at least warmer than the dirt he was sleeping in. it's also getting very warm during the says, and we have our air conditioning turned off in favor of mother nature's more superior system. i went and looked at lights today while waiting for the guy whose tank i'm buying to call me back; i was trying to wait and see what i'd have to work with before i went and bought anything, but i think i'll go ahead and get a small clamp bulb to have on during the day. it's better than nothing. i will also use a filter (either HOB or HOBIT) to create water flow, filter water, and make something of a waterfall- i just don't have one atm.

wanted to ask you something about plants- you had suggested i get some anacharis and throw it in, but ATP says that cooters love to eat it and will decimate it. so..... ?

oh oh oh, also- he's sleeping in the midst of the floating mass of endive/carrot greens/dandelion greens ^_^

Because the turtle is so young it's primary diet will be meaty foods. It will probably leave the anacharis alone for now. But you can always put a little extra anacharis in a bucket outdoors and let it grow to replace any that's eaten.

i got my new tank! :D

i'll be cleaning it out saturday, then clearing its temporary spot in the den. then i'll just need to figure out what size light i need for him >_<

woot!
