tylo snails?

Mine are descended from MsJink's so they are tank raised- and they are as active as can be. In moderate hardness. Stunning body colouration. They seem to grow quite quickly.

Unlike MTS and QM that like to hang out on the floor- they regulary climb the glass at mid-level moving sideways looking to see if I've suctioned any squash or zucchini to the side of the tank.

They look awesome moving in their creeping motion... so unique- I guess QMs and MTS move the same but because they are smaller it doesn't look so impressive.

I have caught mine eating plants when once I didn't put fresh veggies in for 4 days in a row- just my Bacopa Moneiri- haven't seen them touch anything else...

... but as long as there is a veggie available- they'd rather eat that than your plants.

I stagger my lighting so that I have a long dawn and dusk period... they're active all day- but they're most active during dusk (same is true for my QM and MTS). If you want to see them move more- try setting up a dusk period for them.

Mine are from the original shipment of MsJ. They lurch everywhere. I also have hard water. The biggest thing is to have muted lighting or big leaved plants. I had mine in a brighter tank when I first got them and then moved them over to my "anubias" tank....well once they had all of the big leaves and driftwood. They lurched all over the bottom of the tank. They climb the walls at night.

I want some of the orange tylos! Or the primative tylos (which from what I understand arn't really tylos).

the primitive rabbits are a viviparous species. I still have mine, but the young are not having a high survival rate. I am not sure if its a feeding issue or what.

The lighting is a good point, though I'd hardly call 36w over a 20long bright. There's also countless caves for them, but they haven't taken refuge at all. The babies, at least from last summer's batch, are a lot more active - I've wondered if the wild-caught ones just aren't adjusting to tank life that well. Or maybe they just have trouble moving on sand.

The primitive rabbits are Celetaia persculpta, it's a member of the Viviparidae family (trapdoor snails) and not related to Tylomelania. When it first hit aquaria a couple of years back, they called it "freshwater turbo snail", but maybe they changed it to improve sales since there was a huge interest in Tylomelania.

They reproduce sexually (though I am not sure on how to sex them). There are a few of us with them for sale in the classifieds :)

Here is a picture I got of a baby snail being born and the second picture is of the baby after it emerged from the white covering. Sorry about the dirty glass.

Man its so lucky that you caught that! I stalk my tank constantly and have dozens of babies and still have not seen it occur. Thanks so much for sharing!

You are welcome! :) I could not believe my luck. At first I thought my snail was sick. LOL
