Looks great!! I really wish I had the knack for aquascaping that some of you have. I'm just not gifted that way. My yard I can plan out and make pretty. But the tank baffles me.
Omigosh! I know exactly how you feel, I see those beautiful, dense green tanks and feel so hopeless. I've mostly haphazardly thrown things in, then rearranged as I needed to. This is going to be my first real attempt at having a planted tank, as opposed to just giving my fish some nice plants. Once I get a nice piece of driftwood or prettier rocks, I'll remove the ones currently in there. BTW, I grinned when I read your comment. I've muttered the same thing countless times...
Are you going to add a background by any chance?
Are you looking to add any more fish?
Backgrounds have been low priority for me, but I think once I get some more plants in there, I'll choose a nice complimentary bg. I don't actually know what's best, to be honest =/.
I don't know about fish yet. Right now I have:
5 angelfish
1 odessa barb
6 ghost catfish (k. minor)
12ish zebra danios
pictus cat
marbled pleco (?)
3 nerites, with a 4th doing clean up duty elsewhere
4 neon tetras (being cured in old tank)
It looks pretty empty still. The pleco is probably going to go live with the turtle when I redo her tank (that's a project for another day). He's being bad and taking over all the hiding spots in the whole tank, and not letting the pictus have any.
I especial like the cabinet it's on.
That's the 2nd comment I've gotten on the stand! It's very nice, solid wood, not a veneer or anything. At some point, I'd like to stain it, and paint the tank rims a different color, but for now this is a pretty low budget tank and that will have to wait.
Just a couple things to note, at least for myself:
The Magnum 350 is my first canister filter I've ever had. I read about the Magnum being a pain to fill, and getting air trapped inside, and being pretty noisy in general. This filter is used, and I didn't really get a chance to hear it running when I picked up the tank. It has a small rattle, but nothing major; it's quiet enough to be drowned out by the tv. But as far as filling it goes, I refilled it numerous times when cleaning it, with varied success. When it came time to put it in the tank, I just put the intake in the tank, and (with the out nozzle off of the tubing) started a siphon. It filled up incredibly quickly, but I put the end over the tank to catch any that came out, and ended up with the entire canister filled with water, as well as both tubes. I didn't have to start it multiple times, and it worked out the tiny bit of air left over on its own.
It's probably old news, but it was nothing I ran across in my readings about it.
OK! For the plants, I know kinda what they are, but not specifically. So here's my best guesses. Some are kinda rough looking. Re-vamping the old tank was a project pending. I had an UGF (BAD!) that needed removing, so I upgraded tanks instead.
Anubias nana
Anubias barteri?
Myriophyllum aquaticum
Need help with this one
The lady called this a rose moss?
Riccia mat before it got a bit tattered in the move
The parrot feather plant I picked up today. It looks kinda shabby, but it was the best they had, sadly, and I haven't seen it elsewhere around here. I'll manicure it once I make sure that I can put into the sand. The lady told me to not plant it in substrate, but I've seen it planted in pretty much every picture. Also, am I correct in thinking I can trim off those little growths from the stem, and plant them elsewhere? If so I know I can clean it up nicely.
