TYPO's 55g!

Update:

A background is the least of my worries at this point. Because:

Currently I'm battling camallanus. Fan-freaking-tastic. I noticed it first on an angelfish that was having stringy poop since I got the tank. Since my neons were having some issues of a different sort, I tried a couple other parasite treatments, until I saw the wormies coming out of his/her anus. I then noticed it in the Odessa barb, which I have since lost during treatment.

Unfortunately, in my research, I didn't see anything about Fenbendazole being harmful to nerites until *after* I had treated the tank. No articles I found mentioned it nerites specifically, though many said that it was safe for snails and shrimp. (Just not nerites...) I removed them immediately when they started looking ill. Currently, I'm treating the tank with levamisol hcl.

Negative points aside, I got a new fixture, some ramshorns, and a water wisteria. The chain swords have taken off like crazy, all 3 are sending out runners. The parva is growing noticeably slower, however the new leaves that are coming in are much shorter with smaller leaf lobes. The ramshorn snails have done an amazing job on some really tough algae no one else has touched.

The fixture is this one from Home Depot. 48" shoplight, 6" reflector, suitable for damp locations. 32w x2. In almost two weeks, I've seen minimal algae growth.

Pictures! Try as I might, the macro setting just doesn't cut it.
(Also, the nerite shell has been empty for a long time. Just decoration.)

I really like how you've scaped the tanks. Great job!
You've planted everything perfectly and the fish are looking great aswell, I really hope that the angels don't eat the neons!

Great job again :)

Thanks for all of the compliments! This was my first serious attempt at planting a tank, and I wasn't sure how successful I was going to be. The hardest part for me is waiting and not meddling with the plants. I want to keep moving them around until it's *just right*, but my boyfriend keeps me in check. So I spend a lot of time watching (obsessing over) my tank, and looking out for new growth or algae.

Nice tank!! gotta get me a big tank soon!:thm:

Stoopid plec won't let my pictus hide.
View attachment 137023[/QUOTE]

I noticed your pleco (I have the exact same one) and his scales also have that light patchy effect... My pleco also does this! Does it mean he's got a disease? I also notice it comes and goes... and generally when he sucks the glass its not there... i think its like some form of camouflage?? but im probably wrong...

And i LOVE the Angels!!!!:woot:

Yeah, the plec seems to bleach himself out when he's trying to hide out in the open with his head buried under some leaves. I don't know if it's because he's stressed, or just trying to blend in. I've also seen regular plecs do the same thing, but the color change isn't as drastic.

And thanks! The angels are quickly becoming one of my favorite kinds of fish. They all have such different mannerisms, and the interaction between the five of them is so amusing.

Sadly, the angel with the super long fins is still not eating. I've treated the tank for camallanus with two doses of levamisole. The worms have definitely disappeared from view, I can only hope they've passed through its system. He seems interested in food, just never eats.
