Wal-mart still sell fish?

I watched the video and it was an eye opener. I do support the proper treatment of animals but not to the extent that they seem to carry it to and by viewing the film it does seem a lot of the peta supporters are saying and doing what they say they are against. So the battle rages on. Maybe some day there will be a time when people will stop mistreating animals and humans. i doubt it.

You need to see this, posted by Corbin on another thread....there is language that you may find offensive, but it is not as offensive as the hypocrisy exposed....

I have seen alot of that stuff on a peta kills web site. The stuff is really slanted. Sometimes it is the best option is to put animals down. Think of the places the animals come from and the bad condition alot of they are in.
I dont think the holocaust on you plate is appropriate. The elephants are treated like slaves in the circus. I stoped watching when the got to the alf.

you may have seen another thread about mass merchandisers. At www.noclownsinacube,net we are trying to collect information on the information provided through in-store signage and other advertising. We do need all the help we can get.

WalMart is one of the national mass merchandisers we will be approaching. Take photos of their signage or use the format of our spreadsheet found at the nciac main site. there are two formats you can download--xls, or csv.

I agree, there is a degree of hyperbole to the video. To be honest, what bothers me more is that there are KEY members of PETA that are willing to theoretically harm/kill humans to save animals...it's the hypocracy that angers me. Still, at the local level, there are many volunteer, non-profit organizations that operate on a shoe-string budget with vets that volunteer their time to operate no kill shelters. I would think that an organization that brings in over $25 million a year could do better. Extremism, no matter how well intended, rarely works. Our job, as aquarists, is to do as much research as possible before we buy a certain fish, so that we can well and humanely care for that living creature. As has often been said, how we treat and respect animals says alot about how we treat ourselves and others. Often there is a disconnect from our world and our environment...and we will pay the price levied by nature, not some extremist. Most people are good - I have faith we will do the right thing.

That's most likely a manufacturer's image supplied by Marineland, and not the fault of Wal*Mart. I bought a similar setup from Meijer a couple of years back made by Penn Plax... It was probably a 6 or 7 gallon tank, but I swear the box showed like 30 fish swimming happily in the lushly planted tank.

I'm sure it is, but it doesn't change the fact that they use it for advertisement purposes. Using such a picture tells a person that doens't know any better than it is ok do put 5 or 6 goldfish in a 6G tank. Hell, WM probably knows it is wrong but figure they can sell several fish to go with the tank, increasing their profit margin.

People will put blindly trust what they see or hear. And that, my friend, is a fact.

One thing I wanted to point out was that, the peta kills site is runned by the CCF, wich is backed by fast food chains and alot of meat based companies.

Hi. I've never bought a Wal-mart fish. To be fair I have seen one Walmart where the fish looked healthy but the Wal-mart in my town is really bad. One night I saw a tank full of dead eel fish. Several of the bodies were partially sucked up by the filter tube.

And while Petco/Petsmarts are chains they tend to take better care of their fish (at least the ones I've seen). And even if the employees are not that knowledgeable about fish they usually have print out guides on various types of fish there to read.

I am very curious on how much Wal-mart makes selling fish. I can't believe it's that much.

you're right. they are very biased websites, but some of what they say about PETA is accurate.

and so i begin my rant....

I am a vegitarian. I love animals, I find the conditions in which they keep animals rasied for food horrible. I wish they would stop. however, I am realistic. PETA is not. they are dysfunctional body that actually repulses more people than they persuade to our cause. ever seen their childrens comics? they are so graphic, biased and generalized i'd rather not show you. they stage grusome demostrations that, instead of helping people make correct choices, do nothing but horrifly and repulse them. they also completely ignore and do not support economical farming practices where animals are not mistreated. they do insane and irrational things, such as releasing thousands of goldfish into our rivers, streams and lakes, and supporting terrorist orginizations such as ALF.

rant over.....

and, back on subject, I will say the only way to stop wal-mart is to never buy fish from there. the only thing wal-mart sees is their bottom line on cash, and if you deny them that, they will stop the sale of live fish for good.
