webcricket's tanks

Hey guys, thanks for the compliments! I'm still getting this whole planted tank thing figured out and I appreciate the feedback.

For the pics, I just use the macro and underwater settings on my camera and pray the fish hold still for a couple of seconds!

Mervelous... I love your taste in fish AND in bettas and your aquarium aesthetics are superb!!! ^__^

Hey great photo's, great tanks I love them. I am shocked to see you have the exact same camera as me, I havnt' been able to get as nice shots and I have some basic photography knowledge, I used Manual setting and Macro for all my shots and adjusted the shutter speed, ISO, and f stop.

However you say you used Macro and the underwater selection, do you have the underwater box? Or you are just using the setting? Did you use the flash? Bright lights? Hmmmm it's too late for me to get looking at mine now but I am intrigued I want photo's like yours.. lol There is no way I could get mine as crisp and full frame on the cory like you have are you zooming in past the 4.0x and so using the digital zoom?

Thanks! Here's what works on the camera for me:

On menu, be sure you have center focus selected and turn off the AF assist beam (it freaks the fish). Turn off the flash and don't zoom. Set to macro mode. I was using the underwater setting for a while, but have recently been setting on automatic white balance. Set the quality setting to the maximum - this will allow you to crop and better resize the final image. Hold the camera right up to the glass.

Set the aperture to 3.2 or 3.5.
Set the shutter speed anywhere between 1/60 and 1/125.
Set the ISO to 200.

If the image looks too dim through the LCD or you get that annoying camera shake icon, set the ISO to 400. You might need to edit out some of the grain/noise at this ISO in photoshop or a similar program. If the LCD image still looks dim, put some temporary lights up over the top of the aquarium.

If you don't need super high quality images, use the video recorder on it's maximum quality and set to macro. That's how I got the smaller puffer pictures. You can open the video in a program like Adobe Imageready and pick the still images you want out of the video.

Wow ok thankyou, so I think it's superfine you mean by the best quality or is it the M2 setting? I really need to go over my basic instructions that came with the camera.
Now that AF assist beam I have been trying to get that darn thing off now you say it can be done I will have another look thankyou. I always get the annoying camera shake icon hehe.. I have the week off work this week so I already got taking some pictures yesterday I thought they were good until I saw yours.. haha.
Thanks for the tips I really appreciate them. I felt my macro just wasnt' working with your cory picture I would get a complete blur and even trying to MF it didnt' help.. i'm looking forward to getting some better results :)

Edited to add, ok got the beam off I turned it off before and it stayed on but I didnt' save the settings which made me think it was for something else but it's gone now.
