Welcome to the Brackish Forums! Puffer threads go in this forum, as new threads

They sure do - and they say it lives for 5 years. F-8s routinely live to the mid to upper teens for me in light BW. Now who do you think is correct? The web has a huge amount of absolutely incorrect information on puffers, If Dr Ebert, myself and Pufferpunk, the Puffer Forum and the Puffer List say somthing and all agree, believe it. If other sites do not agree, and if you believe those, then that is your choice and will be your problem.

Another question for ya
Do they like slow moving water or a bit of a current in the tank as of now I have a pretty good water flow going. I read that they live in rivers with good water flow is this the correct?

Reverse Osmosis for Brackish Water

I previously had a BW puffer tank for 9 years but have been out of it for just as many. Regular tap water was used at that time and everyone was fine. I just got my new puffes (1 GSP and 1 Ceylon) yesterday after having cycled the tank. I was told to use reverse osmosis water when filling my tank. We have it installed on our sink so I just used that when filling it. I just read on here NOT to use RO water in a brackish tank. They seem to be doing fine and my levels are all fine. What does it do to them? Should I try to change it out? Any help would be great...I'm super paranoid now! :(

I would not use RO water, until your puffers are close to marine conditions. Marine salt replaces many things your fish need to live & there won't be enough salt in there to replace that. (Sorry, I don't know actually what is in there that it replaces.)

Thanks!

Should I do water changes to get out the RO water? Like 50% this week and 50% next week? Thanks!

That should work. I do 50% weeklys on all my tanks anyway.

Red Algae in Puffer Tank

I got my puffer tank started about a month ago. Over the past few days some red algae (it's red and algae so I'm assuming that's what it is) has started covered all the rocks and fake plants in there. Is there a good way to get rid of it that is safe for my fish? The levels in my tank are testing well although the nitrates are high now. I'll be doing water changes to get those levels back to zero over the next few weeks. Any suggestions on clearing this algae out of there? Thanks!
