well....gonna do another ram spawn.....

Well, I moved all of the fry into my 20long planted tank. I removed the female ram I had in there and the fry are sharing it with 2 panda cories, 3 threadfin rainbows and 2 ottos.

They're looking good. Sploke, As soon as I see them pairing up and I can tell male from female you can swing by and pick some out....though I'm reaserving the nicest pair for myself :D

Some of them are quite a bit larger than others. I think putting two different spawns together is probably the cause of that...even though they are only a week apart in hatching....it's enough so that the older ones keep the younger ones cowed enough that it effects thier growth somewhat. One of the reasons I put them in the planted tank. I'm hoping the extra room and plant cover helps that. Either way, once the larger ones are removed the smaller ones should pick up. I filled the 10 fry tank with the stapp fry I've had in a 5...so I can't seperate out the larger rams from the smaller.

Here's a pic of them:

Ray, you may have the long finned variety of ram. That's also one reason I don't try to sex rams according to their dorsal rays.....they are all so different.
.
No, actually I don't have the long finned ones, mine looks exactly like yours, except the second and third ray of the dorsal fin is 3 times as long, and the black stripe at the front of the pectoral fins on mine extend really long just like the two dorsal rays. Otherwise, the fins are just like yours, I've seen the long finned ones and I really don't care for them. Your right, after seeing your rams I understand better why the rays arent a good sex identifier. Nice pics though, maybe I'll post a pic of mine sometime so you can see what I'm talking about.

EMG, I may need a female. Mine wasn't looking so good a couple of days ago. Hopefully she'll pull through.

Do a water change Bawlsy............when you notice something wrong in the tank, and you havn't added anything new.....it's a good bet something has gone wrong with the parameters.

I'd do small 10-20% water changes every day for a few days and see how she responds. Just because the other fish may be fine, doesn't mean that there's nothing wrong with the water. Besides, often good fresh clean water will perk up a fish who's a bit under the weather.

Give it a shot, couldn't hurt....

Emg, awesome! When you can sex them, just send me a PM and we'll work out a time. Do you have enough that I can get 2 pairs do you think?

Just did a water change and added a snail (last snail ever! you warned me about them). I think it had some sort of parasite on it, or something. She's got a very small growth below her gills. I have no idea what it is. I'm medicating the tank now. Hopefully it helps.

Dang Bawlsy....that stinks........I hope she pulls through ok for you...if not let me know.

Sploke, I'll give you a heads up when they're ready. I hope I can get you two pairs. The smaller ones are starting to catch up in growth since I put them in the larger planted tank. It's going to be a bear getting them out of there though....lol !

She's doing much better today. Hopefully she pulls through. My two are wonderful together. They're like a couple of newly weds.

I'm a bit miffed at my LFS though. Nothing I'd bring up to the owner though. There's a good chance he'll buy my baby rams should I do a spawn.
