What are some good bottom feeders for a cichlid tank?

Common plecs can run from 8"-24" too big for a 55 gal.
I can always grow them out for my monster tank. But I like the Chinese algae eaters for some reason. They do some **** fine cleaning and are pretty hardy fish.

But they're a PITA if you ask me. They also don't eat algae so much when they are older. They usually make a transition to prepared foods only.
Mine have never touched prepared food. I can always get another one they are like a buck fifty :)

I disagree, quite a few bottom dwellers are in fact predators not "scavengers". I believe even Corydoras species feed on insects, larvae, worms, etc. in the wild They aren't there to clean up after other fish...

Not other fish, but they do keep the amount of algae down. They also eat the fine particles of food that cichlids don't swallow.

imo - RTBS, never had any trouble with them.

There really isn't a tank you can keep the RTBS in without them terrorizing everyone.

My mbuna tank keeps him in check.
