what are some oddball's for community tank?

I can see how different species of electric fish in one tank can cause problems. The signals they send are species-specific, whether by frequency or timing of the signals. Thus, if you have different "languages" going on simultaneously, the "lines get crossed". I can imagine that it sounds to one species that the others is saying all kinds of bad words, and the two would end up fighting.

That's what's so cool about electric fish (including sharks and rays), because they have another dimension in their world that humans can't even comprehend! So cool.

thanks for the interesting discussion, guys!

My votes would be for some of the 'simpler' oddballs.
Banjo cat
Farlowella
Brown ghost knife or Transparent knife

You can do Butterfly or Elephantnose but you want to be more specialized in you feeding then and go with frozen blood worms or brine/mysis shrimp and be sure they are not starving because of the other fish.

After that the interesting ones get too big or too aggressive for what you may want.

I didnt notice anyone suggesting any eels. They are definately oddball-ish and arent able to eat much other than the food you would give them. I have two peacock eels in a tank with some platties who have fry nearly every other day and they dont eat the fry. If they did, they would likely explode from eating too many!

I had an eel once.. It was a fire eel but it died of who knows what? I was sad and never dealt with them again... Another sweet oddball is an african frog... I had one that was like 4 inches around... He was a fat little ******! But he may eat your fish. I would love to have a ghost knife but I wont part with my elephant.

Btw I like your thinking plah

thanks, mate!

The topic of "oddball" fish is just so cool that I wish I could go on forever about it. But yes, fish do some very odd and wonderful things, eh?

hmm

actually, I doubt it would be the spotted Raph that is eating your betta. Catfish as a rule will eat anything that will fit into their mouths, I don't know that a spotted Raph, unless he was really big, would ever get big enough to fit a betta into its mouth.

As for catfish not coming out and being seen. Raphs and most other cats become much more sociable if there are 2-3 of them in a tank together, they will still not be incredibly social, but will be seen much more often.

Not a Fish but really cool I think...

this isnt a fish but it has done really well in my tank. It is a Fiddler Crab. Really cool to watch and very active. It will climb out so a lid is a must. Ill post a pic later
