What do you consider a good price?

craigslist is the aquarists best friend. i've purchased SEVERAL tanks this way. last one I got was my 90 w/stand, lights, THREE canister filters, yes, thats THREE seperate canister filters, two eheim pro's and a magnum, for 200$

Craigslist is a good site, but I think it may be useful only if you live near a really large city. I chose the largest nearby city and there were no tanks for sale.

Tinajo, are you talking used or new?

IME, buying used is the way to go. It's somewhat of a risk, but most responsible people will let you test the equipment before you buy it (i.e. check the tank for leaks, etc.).

I got a 55 gallon tank with everything (filter, lights, stand, the works) for only $70 that way, although I did end up needing to replace the filter.

I would just let people that you know that you are looking for another tank. You would be surprised on how many people have 10, 20, and 29 gal tanks in a closet, garage, or basement. Most will give them away, they hate to see them just sitting there. It might be worth putting an ad in the paper that you are looking for a tank.

To put an ad for free, use craigslist too. Another lesser know but great site (I also got free fish stuff there) is freecycle.org. It's for people who want free stuff or people who want to find a good home for something they no longer have use for. Everything is free there - you give or get for free, can't ask for money, no sob story allowed. Usually first dips or first pick up gets it.

Tinajo, are you in the Greater Cincinnati area of elsewhere in KY ?

on craigslist. Try searching just "aquarium" rather then "fish aquarium" they produce more matches...
