What to put with a male betta?

Omg, mesto I totally just saw your post, I'm sorry! I feel so rude! :/

I loved my last betta, even though he hated everyone except his octopus. They're definitely full of personality, and it really is hit and miss with who's going to go on a rampage and who will just hang out. Like stephy mentioned, adding the betta last will help. Good luck on your tank as well! I'll be sure to post pictures when it's up. :)

Aren't they pretty?! I was cruisin through liveaquaria looking for ideas and I practically started drooling, lol. I won't be adding them til the 20 is set up though. I think you could probably do them in your 10 with a betta if you just did one maybe two, but I would leave your stocking at that (unless you added shrimp or snails). From what I read, they have a pretty huge bioload for their size and I wouldn't over filter too much in a betta tank, since they don't like a lot of flow. I think your best bet for your 10 is betta, 1 or 2 smaller schools (5-6 a piece) of smaller fish like neons, and some inverts. If you only did one school, you could up the numbers a little. I'd use an AC20 filter on it since it has custom media and adjustable flow.

ive kept bettas with tetras, rasboras, corys, platies, apistos, and plecos. it depends on the temperment though. king bettas have been gentle giants for me.

Ok....so this is what I'm thinking for stocking with the 20 gallon.

http://aqadvisor.com/AqAdvisor.php?...AqSpeciesWindowSize=short&AqSearchMode=simple

It says I'm like 5% overstocked, but it didn't have gold NEON tetras which is what I actually want, not gold tetras. Gold tetras are bigger than gold neon tetras by like half an inch I think, so I should be ok. Here's a link for the gold neons: http://www.liveaquaria.com/product/prod_display.cfm?c=830+890+898&pcatid=898 I don't think 5% is really a huge deal anyways, especially when none of them are especially needy fish. I'd rather be overstocked by one tetra than have them in a school that might be too small.

Thoughts?

I just put them in there not too long ago. I did see two tiny tiny shrimp over 24 hours ago and they are still there. They are so tiny you can barely see them.

anyone?

K....change of plans, I'm getting yellow shrimp from Ashes2Ashes here on AC! Loved those guys but didn't know where to find them, so glad I checked the classifieds! Other than that stocking plans are still the same.

10 gallon:
8 yellow shrimp
6 cardinal tetras
1 male betta

20 gallon, when upgraded:
8 yellow shrimp
6 cardinal tetras
6 gold neon tetras
2 pineapple swordtails
1 male betta

I'll be doing some overhauling on the tank this week, and the shrimp will be here in 2 weeks or so! I'll probably end up doing a bit of a build thread on here if anyone is interested. Mostly just a little change in decor and cleaning. :)

Also, what kind of food do you guys recommend? Brand, flakes/pellets/gel, etc.

My betta will not eat pellets, so I feed Omega betta flakes. But every other betta I have had ate pellets no problem. It might back to ”depends on the betta” (seems like a common theory on bettas, what divas!!!) Lol!!

My last betta wouldn't eat flakes...I still have his pellets. But the tetras, swordtails, and shrimp shouldn't eat that too, should they? Do I need to have 2 or 3 foods, or is there a universal one I can use? Or should I make gel food using equal parts of both processed foods plus extra stuff?
