What Works for Me May Not Work for You

- I NEED all of my aquarium junk...even though 90% of it is sitting in boxes in the garage.
- I NEED to keep collecting more fish junk off of craigslist and my LFS "scrap yard".
- I am a master algae grower.
- I have 21 comet babys in a 10 gallon for now...I'm going to reseal that 30 gallon that is sitting in my garage...I swear it.
- "I'll do a water change tomorrow...I promise."
- If it's not totally rotten, my goldfish will eat it...they'll eat the rotten stuff too...they're like tiny yellow dogs.
- 55 is not big enough...75 is not big enough...90, 110, 125, etc.

I can go on and on...
 
I stock to the brim.

Carbon all the way.

I wash my filters with hot water.

I add 1.5ounces of urine to my tank daily when cycling.

I have somewhere around 3.0+ WPG and no live plants.

I love testing my water and do it every chance i get.

Urine, human waste, has large ammounts of ammonia in it. Works pretty fast for me, and beats buying pure ammonia, who would pay out for that when your body naturally produces it. Thats all i mean.
 
Tis cool, I just never heard of that before :)
 
I was diligently testing my water parameters until I noticed a plateau, now I check once every 2-3 weeks.

Sometimes I don't use my python and break out the old bucket and siphon.

I have never quarantined a fish.

I am always counting my fish.

This thread has done wonders for my ego. I was feeling quite inferior since I never tested my water (probably should buy a test kit), cycled my tank using Sera Nutrivec, using a Chinese knock-off cannister filter for which I have no directions. I don't have a heater in the tank cause I am living in central Mexico and I don't need heating or AC so why would a fish, cause the climate is near perfect. The LFS doesn't speak English and my Spanish is poor so we keep everything very basic, really basic. I do a 20% WC once a week, and as soon as I find a place to buy a vacuum for my gravel I will do that too. I put salt in the tank but never in my beer. I bought some charcoal but it is still in the bag, the LFS told me it was muy importante, but they just put it in a sock and make like it's decor.

I love reading and learning from all of your posts. It both inspires me to grow in this hobby and scares me about how little I really know. And now I will never have to see that annoying message ever again, cause I feel just like one you now, Thanks Pops!:confused:

This has brightened up my day. For about two weeks I've been feeling like a loser fishkeeper because after 8 years and 10+ various tank setups, I have CLOUDY WATER!!!

LOL

here's my list:

1. don't do the charcoal thing
2. have NEVER quarantined a fish.
3. probably overstock, but all my fish are happy and never die
4. bought my first test kits last week (cause of the cloudy water)!
5. Always cycle WITH fish, but have never lost one because I'm responsible about it
6. do 20% WC once a week, clean filters once a month
7. overfeed
8. keep live plants that need more light/fert than I give them. If they die, pick something different next time.
9. I suck at catching fish so I traumatize the whole tank every time I stick a net in!

and 10. Have more ft2 of water in my living space than I have seating!!
