I paid over $3500 for an Asian arowana (super red) thats all I am going to say. Stupid,Stupid,Stupid!!! :duh:

My newest fish, L018 gold nugget, had a $40 price tag (CD). Because I work in the store, I paid $19.99 + a trade in of a few platys.
I'm starting to really enjoy plecs, I can see myself setting up a much larger tank and spending big bucks on rare plecs in the future.
ashdavid, why do you say the money you spent on your arowana is stupid? I've seen price tags as high as $5000 and $ 10 000CD for large arowana (~8"), even smaller ones can go for $1000.
I saw a $25 000 parrot today, horses can cost tens (or hundreds) of thousands of dollars, and chihuahuas can go for $3000 or more. The way I see it, it all boils down to buying a pet, and if you love the fish it's worth it :)

Blinky you are making me feel better already. I shocked myself when I bought it, it took me a long time to save for it. I guess you are right but I just feel stupid when you can get an oscar for $3, I know they are different fish , but .......

$10 or less but then again I have a strict 3 inch rule so... Not to costly in that department. I can't fathom paying $3500 for a fish! Must be a nice one, do you have a pic? Just wondering what it looks like. I was really looking at buying a crown tail when I set up my betta tank but found one locally that was to good to pass up for $3. Maybe upwards of $100 if I ordered the crown tail with shipping. Everyone I know would have never let me live down spending that much on a fish LOL. Not much to choose from up here in WI either so it's special order online if I really want something odd. I haven't tried mail order yet but I'm sure someday I will.

You have got to be kidding?......Thats just insane!!!!

Thats nothing I have seen an arowana for sale, it won a competion and it was selling for $30,000. I think breeders buy these to get good blood lines.
But you are right , insane!!! It is a good fish though.

I voted over $50, some of the truly awesome pleco's command more than that in our area, I have bought babies that cost $49.99 on a few occasionsadd tax it's a $55.00 fish. Many of the fish I have owned are in the $100 range once they reach adulthood. the advantage I have is I always buy babaies and raise them. I used to get OScars for $1.99 keep them 8 months and sell them for 5 dollars an inch. My royal at is current size is probably an $80+ dollar fish in most LFS's around here. I somehow doubt I'll sell him though. those days are past I think. Look on the bright side, cherry shrimp most places push $10 each, you can find them cheaper on the web but unless you order a bunch you are right back in the $10 range after shipping and fatalities. so fish are pound for pound a good deal b comparison.

I'd say that's about an average price?
I took a peek at the arowanas on AquaBid and yikes...
I know some pretty fanatic arowana owners down here, and they wouldn't blink at $3,500.

Side note, Wal*Mart brought in some "fancy" stuff that the local LFS just don't seem to stock.
I was surprised to see a trio of blue dolphins for about $15 each which were about 3" to 4".
They had a pretty nice electric blue cichlid about 4" to 5" (they called it "XL") for $20.
Some pretty weird looking corys that were labeled "fancy corys" for $3.06 each - I just seen the same type of cory labeled "EXTREMELY RARE" on AquaBid.

Why Wal*Mart???
ARGH!
