Which do you prefer? Bettas or Gouramis.

The last few gouramis I bought from a fish store were awful. The gourami's died within 6-months of purchase, just wasted away to nothing and then died. Also, I can't find female gourami's in the stores. So I have voted for Bettas. I like the variety and colors and the fact that so many people come into the hobby as a result of these pretty little fish.....they are the gateway (drug) fish!!!! I have one male and one female betta and no gourami's. I'd like to have a couple of gourami's though that won't die in a few months.

They definitely are the gateway (drug) fish. I came back into the hobby with one Betta fish in august, Now I am fishless cycling my first planted 10 gallon.

lol . I think the reason most people dont like gouramis that much is because that the ones that were formerly hardy have become very poor-quality and the rest (and the most beautiful) are quite diffictult to care for. I absolutely LOVE the samurai, licorice and chocolate gouramis but they are too difficult for me right now.

I like gourami's better because they're much more interesting in the tank IMO. Plus they're easier to keep in a community tank. My dwarf gourami is one of my favorite and prettiest fish.

I voted Betta's because they have long flowing fins and are more colorful. If gourami's were peaceful community fish I would pick them but every gourami no matter how small have turned into mean fish. So since both of them are really aggressive I would have to pick the more colorful ones.

Bettas.I have 3 males, 2 crowntails and 1 reg. male. Never had any luck with gouramis

Personally, I find bettas to be extremely boring. They seem to lack personality, which my gourami certainly has loads of!
