I've got some hydors but have had a couple that ran hot (one had my 180g up to 86 when I caught it), had a fluval M with stray voltage fry my endler colony, so now I'm going with inline heaters. I think the fluval M thing was a freak occurrence but I was very disappointed as that was going to be my new go-to heater. As far as I'm concerned, there are no reliable heater brands on the market.

Jagers are my oldest heaters, but this was before they started making them in china. Have had good luck with Visitherm's and Finnex's with external controller these are the two brands I will likely stick with.

Heaters I own and won't buy again, Aqueon have had 2 die, Elite and Hydor both are 25w or less and very inaccurate either hotter or colder then they're suppose to be.

whereas i've never had an issue with my elite heaters being off by more than a degree or two. what do you mean by '25w or less'?? (or i may just be brain-dead right now from a big pasta dinner tonight, lol)

I meant both heaters were 25 watt or less(bought for 5g and smaller betta tanks) forget which one was which but one was adjustable and ran hotter then the dial the other was suppose to be 78* all the time but water stayed in the low 70's. A lot of little heaters seem to have issues, I probably wouldn't let it stop me from trying a higher wattage heater but I wont try either of their little ones again.

i've run elite heaters from 50 watt up to 200 watt with no issues at all. i did get a little 25 watt elite with my recent free fluval edge tank, but haven't put it to use yet. i don't expect to have any issues with it though.

"Cheap plastic?" - I go back to the day when all heaters were glass and none submersible - the plastic coated aluminum submersible heaters of today are the boss. I have two Aqueon heaters in my 60g and wouldn't trade for glass if you paid me cash money ;-)

That's right reptileguy, they sold it, you bought it and now you own it and defend it.

I'm concerned that the 3rd most prominent ingredient in NLS is wheat flour, however, both New Life Spectrum and Omega One appear to be good foods and far better than those that list fish meal, followed by corn or wheat flour or gluten, etc.
(I could not seem to get a typical ingredient list for Hikari foods [although 'First Bites' list fish meal followed by wheat flour]).

The NLS typical ingredients:
Whole Antarctic Krill Meal, Whole Herring Meal, Wheat Flour, Whole Squid Meal, Algae Meal, Soybean Isolate, Beta Carotene, Spirulina, Garlic, Vegetable and Fruit Extract (Spinach, Broccoli, Red Pepper, Zucchini, Tomato, Pea, Red and Green Cabbage, Apple, Apricot, Mango, Kiwi, Papaya, Peach, Pear), Vitamin A Acetate, D-Activated Animal-Sterol (D3), Vitamin B12 Supplement, Thiamine, DL Alphatocophero ( E ), Riboflavin Supplement, Folic Acid, Niacin, Biotin, Calcium Pantothenate, Pyridoxine Hydrochloride, L-Ascorby-2-Polyphosphate (Stable C), Ethylenediamine dihydroiodide, Cobalt Sulfate, Copper Proteinate, Ferrous Sulfate, Manganese Sulfate, Choline Chloride.

The Omega One Tropical Flakes ingredients:
Whole Salmon, Halibut, Black Cod, Whole Herring , Whole Shrimp, Whole Krill, Wheat Flour, Wheat Gluten, Fresh Kelp, Lecithin, Astaxanthin, L-Ascorbyl-2-Phosphate (Source of Vitamin C), Natural and Artificial Colors, Vitamin A Acetate, Vitamin D3 Supplement, Vitamin E Supplement, Vitamin B12 Supplement, Riboflavin, Niacin, Pantothenic Acid, Folic Acid, Biotin, Inositol, Tocopherol (Preservative),
Ethoxyquin (Preservative)

years Ago the ONLY brand I trusted was ebo jager. Im not sure how they are now since They have been bought by another company Eheim .......

Have had good luck so far with the Aqueon Submersible and my top current pick is ELITE.

Any thoughts on the eheim Jager products? Are they crap now or still as good as the old stuff?
