still no A/N/N readings.....

Sounds like you are having water issues (a hallway light being on/off would not cause your problems) and one can't take preventative measure to fix this unless one has a test kit to find out what is wrong...seriously look into getting one, it is worth it in fish lives and your own personal investment in the hobby.

no the light isnt a problem im just asking if fish can see in the darkness? thats maybe why they seem depressed in the morning

we cannot determine what is wrong unless you post your water test readings. that is most likely the problem. please, if you don't have a test kit, go to your LFS and they will test it for you.

the presence of light is actually a stressor for sick or weak fish. during treatment for anything, many people recommend leaving lights off for the whole time. so no, darkness will not hurt your fish. that's also why most people keep lights off for a few hours after adding new fish, so it doesn't stress them.

yes, it seems to me like a problem of poor water quality more than anything else. you should really look into getting a liquid test kit. they're not that expensive ($15 or so) for a kit with ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and pH.

Come on Nate, buddy! You can do this! Just as recommended in your other posts. Please help us out and get your own test kit. Your fish will be thankful.

LOL :D
Yes, they're really not that difficult to use AND it will make you feel more professional! Feel free to add a white lab coat, goggles, and gloves to complete the mood :)

But seriously, it's really going to help you get a better idea of what's going on in your aquarium. A MUST for serious fish keepers. I know you have good intentions, I can tell in your posts that you care about your fish, so do this for your fishies, OK?

I *love* using my test kits! Dangerous chemicals! The colors changing! Mixing! Shaking! Color matching! Cool stuff ;)

You know the sluggishness you may be noticing in your fish when you turn the lights on in the morning may simply be them still "sleeping" or just waking up. At night, many fish dim their colors. That still doesn't explain your water though, we will need the test results for that.

soon i keep saying that but i got the cash for so ill post tomarrow hopefully if not wensday.
