Will you help me with the quest for the west african mudskipper?

In case I missed your Intro post... :welcome: to AC bextra! Glad you're here! :)

:grinyes: I like your sass.

MudskipperFan:
Look, here's the problem.
1. You came here to ask for advice, and a lot of people jumped to help you. They told you you would need a bigger tank, which you said you would do in the event that you get a mudskipper. Okay, we get that a lot.. whatever, as long as you do it.
2. One member suggested you ask at your LFS and try to get them ordered. This does not mean PetCo/PetSmart/other chain stores.. they're not gonna special order anything. You need to find a little hole-in-the-wall mom&pop store. They can definitely get them, and it'll save you paying for shipping on one fish.
3. THEN, a member actually found you an Aquabid auction! I mean, this is personalized service, now! :) Perhaps you're not used to auction etiquette, but bids are binding. Sellers are charged fees to list their auctions, and they actually want to move these fish. It is a form of business. You must take bidding seriously, because the sellers sure do.

You gotta step back and chill, dude. If you want a skipper, do your research. It's not like picking up a guppy at the store and chucking it in whatever tank you have. They have very specific needs and if you don't address them, your fish will suffer - and you'll be out of money.

People here are seriously trying to help you. Please listen.

I've been a fan of mudskippers ever since second grade. Ever since this year started, Ive been doing research from various websites, mostly here.
I tried to ask this one store called all about fish to get me a skiper, and it is a "small" family pet store. Then someone sent me a link to aquabid, which I knew about before but didn't want to order anything from there because it would be to expensive. (minimum order, anyone?) So then instead of trying to just buy it, I bided on it, beleiving that all about fish would fail to order them in. Then I went to the chat rooms and asked people for help but I think they got angry at me because I once "killed" a dwarf puffer, which I am seriously sorry for. then, this one person said "You are a criminal" because of when I did that, which made me really angry. Then that same person said "dont even try to keep fish" which is why I have this serious headache right now. What I think you guys don't notice is that I am pretty much ready to get a mudskipper, because I have been looking at all the information on this site, but now, because of all this crap thats happening, I'm thinking on just getting a dwarf puffer again instead, heck I should just keep frogs and change my name to mudskipper hater.
This thread is pretty funny.
Yeah it is. hahahahahahahahahahahahaHAAA

Aquabid isn't a store, it's an auction site. Ergo, they don't HAVE a minimum order. This has already been explained to you. Retailers have minimum orders, auctions do not. The price you bid, should you win, is the price you pay (plus shipping, naturally).

I'm sorry that people were mean to you in chat. I have to think that it was not entirely unprovoked. However, if you have been doing all this research on mudskippers and consider yourself ready to get one, why haven't you set up a bigger tank? I know people always swear up and down to get a bigger tank when they need it, but that.. rarely ever happens. Best bet is to be totally prepared to house your fish for life BEFORE you bring him home. That way, you avoid any unforseen incidents (what if you can't afford a new tank when your fish needs one? What if the only mudskipper you can buy is an adult? and so on).

I don't think you should avoid 'skippers, and I don't think you should chuck such a wobbly temper tantrum because people try to guide you in the right direction. Just take a deep breath, think about how good it is to get advice BEFORE you get in over your head, and really think about what you want to do with your tank.

I couldn't have said anything better than b did. Skippy, I'm sorry that someone said that stuff to you in chat, but try to look at the other side. I (and quite a few others) went out of our way to try to help you. You ended up laughing it off and what you did ultimately could affect a small business person on Aquabid. How would you feel in my place?

i know mudskipperfan will do fine with his new mudskipper and i know he will breed them one day,he will become a expert on them, sometimes people have to make the right choice themselves.

Your optimism is humbling. :)

I see where you are getting the 200 dollar minimum order, if you go to the sellers website it says 200 minimum BUT they are a wholesaler, the 200 minimum is for fish stores need to order 200 dollars in products. It doesn't work that way on Aquabid though. Aquabid you are simply buying the one critter and paying for shipping (which AGAIN is going to be similar to LiveAquaria, add in shipping and it will be one expensive Skippy).
I too am sorry that people were mean to you, I think a slight wake up call is in order though. A 10g is not going to suffice for a Skippy for long. So why don't you set up a new tank for the Skippy (preferably one in the 30-40 gallon Breeder Tank range) and then you will have a happy Skippy for life and you will stand a far less chance of its demise due to stress of being in a small place. Imagine living in a closet, it wouldn't be fun for long, before long a 1 bedroom apartment would be a mansion :). We're simply trying to keep your best interest and the best interest of the fish you decide to keep in mind. Hope this helps!

I want pics with that day's newspaper...

My mommy and I are hoping to get a 20-30 gallon tank pretty soon. Then I'll try to move the filter from the ten gallon to the 30 gallon, or I'll get a better filter and put some of the sand from the previous tank in it, and take a sample of the sand from the ten gallon and use it for some of the sand. I hope I can do all of this.
