Windows Vista

Linux is like stepping in to a whole new world.
..... and no it doesnt run widows apps.

Linux is fine for either power users or the type of people that never want to install anything. For those in between it can be a real pain.

The big problem right now with Vista is that since it is new there can be component/driver issues that are being worked out. The first service pack will be introduced in the fall and companies are working fast to make their drivers work. This happened in XP as well. I remember waiting for new drivers to help make my digital camera work.

It is funny though that with a new computer you are having so many errors. I have helped 5 new computer users get started with Vista and they are having no issues at all. Generally if you buy a brand name computer then all the parts will have been tested. If you buy a purpose built computer put together by a small shop then things might be a bit rough in the beginning.

I also assume this is Vista 32 bit and not 64 bit. If it were 64 bit then you are screwed pretty much for awhile.

I've had no problems with my vista..I like it. But I have heard several ppl do not.

get a mac, they're better in pretty much most if not all ways. i wouldn't recommend linux after hearing you'd never heard of it. not much runs on it, and there's definitely a learning curve. macs also have a curve, but they're really easy and they don't crash or get viruses or anything. just my 2 cents

I didn't like Vista at first, then it grew on me a little bit. The only thing I don't like it for is audio recording. Errors everywhere.. its really frustrating when you have so much money tied up in recording gear and the computer you bought to run it all doens't recognize it. Hopefully that fall service pack will clean things up a bit.

 I have yet to find even one way a Mac is superior to a PC.

Yeah, Vista's a bit different in terms of how its components work. That can certainly grow on you, and in fact, it already has.

But what hasn't grown on me are all the error messages, freezing, and crashing.

I had the same experience w/ Vista.

I took my computer in, they replaced the motherboard and the hard drive so when I get it back, well, then I guess I'll see if it grows on me. lol

Don't blame Vista for user error!
