Windows Vista

Vista is an engineering failure especially when they spend 5 years developing it! I went back to XP. A Mac OS10 will be my next computer I am tired of Microsoft's monopoly, high prices and crappy products.

a base mac laptop IS $1000. and it will be better than a pc laptop for that same price, no second mortgage involved

Not that I care one way or the other about macs or pc's but a base pc laptop can be had for $500 from places like Dell. Either way, the base version is always the worst to buy, no matter the brand.

I'm not such a huge fan of Vista. I got this laptop about 5 months ago, and while no one "put a gun to my head," I really didn't have much of an option. Our other computer was totally messed up, we had no cash up front, and the only credit card I have is a Best Buy card so I went ahead and bought it because we had to have a computer.

By the time we bought this computer, you could no longer buy one with XP, and Vista had been out for less than a month. When we took the computer home, we started it up and waited, and waited, and waited for Vista to complete the install. It never happened, so we took the computer back and had to wait nearly 2 hours for the Best Buy people to make us a boot disk or something. Finally we got it working, but after using it for a few months we realize that our computer would be running MUCH faster on XP. Vista is so bloated, and such a resource hog, and has tons of errors so far. These aren't issues we were having with XP. It's a shame that our new laptop is only marginally faster than our other computer that was pieced together with free parts- if we were running XP I'm sure this computer would run a lot better. but it would be a real pain to back everything up and then install XP, so we are still just considering it.

Anyway, that's just my perspective, as someone who doesn't know that much about computers. I've been a bit disappointed, but hopefully the service pack will fix some bugs.

And I looked into the Mac books, and while they look really cool and I'm sure they work great, there is a big difference between $699 for a decent PC laptop on sale vs. $1000+ for the lowest model of Mac Book. There's just no way we could afford that.

As a PC gamer, I'm still running Microsoft Windows XP Pro 32 bit. It's the most stable and they have yet to put any drivers out for my sound card for Vista or 64 bit XP. My hopes are that before Unreal Tournament 3 releases, Razer can take the time to put out some 64 bit XP or 64 bit Vista drivers. It sucks having a 3.5GHz E6700 C2D but only using 50% of the processor.

eh, the bottom line is, Never buy anything with a low serial number. I'll give users another year or two to betta test vista for me.. That way, when I get a new computer, I'll only have to download a half a gig of established patches to make it preform the way it's supposed to.

Meh, I personaly hate macs and linux.........I play computer games very frequently and both those OS's arent too good for games. As for XP vs vista, it all depends on your tech skill and budget. If you're highly knowledged about computers and you have an upper-end computer (preferably with dx10) then vista will run very smoothly for you with only the rare hiccup.

I made the switch to vista (from ubuntu and xp) a few days ago, and so far everything has been going GREAT! I absolutely love the visual effects; they look so much more refined than beryl on ubuntu. although, my computer is pretty high-end.... (C2quad 2.4 ghz, 2gb 800mhz mem., 8800GTS) so far I hadnt notice a slow-down of any sort.
